Synopsis[]
In Secret Invasion, set in the present-day MCU, Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill, and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.[1]
Plot[]
In 1997, Nick Fury has a meeting with Talos and his Skrulls. Among these are Talos' daughter, G'iah, as well as a promising young skrull named Gravik. In the meeting, Fury sets out a deal: he makes sure to find them a new home if they help him with his spy work. The skrulls agree. During this time, Fury gets close and eventually marries a skrull known as Varra. She soon takes on the name of a deceased friend, Priscilla Davis.
Now in 2026, Fury has failed to find the skrulls a home, leading an angry Gravik to start a rebellion against not only Fury, but Talos, and Humans. In this rebellion, Soren ends up being killed. Meanwhile, Agent Donald Prescod of the CIA starts getting paranoid, realizing there are skrulls. He talks to Everett Ross about his suspicions only to realize that Ross has been replaced by a skrull. The two skirmish which ends in Donald Prescod's death. Talos, who had been trailing the Ross skrull, chases the murderer only for the Ross skrull to fall to his demise. Maria Hill meets Talos on the ground and they get Fury from space back to Earth.
Fury meets with Hill and Talos, reuniting with them. While the Skrull Resistance sends some spies, including Brogan out into the world. Talos and Fury begin work and interrogate Vasily Poprishchin, who turns out to be a skrull that they had to kill. Later, Talos meets with his daughter, who is in the Skrull Resistance. Although she is loyal to Gravik, he convinces her to help him. She tells Talos the plan to bomb Vossoyedineniye Square. Fury and Talos try to intercept this bombing, but it all goes wrong as Gravik ends up simming Fury and killing Hill.
A saddened Fury is forced to leave on a train with Talos. On said train, the two argue about Gravik and the skrulls. Meanwhile, Gravik meets with the Skrull Council and earns their trust. As tensions grow higher, Fury meets with James Rhodes, who knows about the skrulls. However, Fury starts getting suspicions about Rhodes. Meanwhile, Gravik and skrulls impersonating Rosa and Victor Dalton work on a Super-Skrull Machine to turn them into Super Skrulls.
An old ally of Fury, Sonya Falsworth, also catches onto the skrulls and finds Brogan. She interrogates and tortures him into giving her answers before leaving the scene as Gravik and Pagon enter. The skrulls grab Brogan and end up executing him for talking. Fury soon goes back to Varra where the two spend the night.
The next day, Talos meets with Gravik to discuss their differences. However, Gravik is very tense and threatens to kill G'iah. This prompts Talos to lash out and stab Gravik with a fork before threatening Gravik himself. When Talos leaves, Gravik removes the fork as Extremis heals his hand since he used the super skrull machine. Fury and Talos go on another mission to stop the resitence from attacking UN-1. They go to Bob Fairbanks house as he has special codes. However, Fairbanks is actually a skrull.
Talos is done playing games and kills Fairbanks' skrull before calling G'iah, who searches the captured Fairbanks' memories and reveals the password is his son's name. This allows them to stop the attack, forcing G'iah to free the base. However, G'iah uses the super skrull machine to give herself powers before leaving. She is then stopped by Gravik on the way out, who knows she was the mole. Gravik shoots G'iah, believing she is dead; but G'iah heals when he is out of view.
Meanwhile, Varra makes a secret call to none other than Rhodes' skrull names Raava. The skrull tells Varra that they need to meet as Varra is actually with the resistance. She makes her way to St James's Church where she has a conversation with Raava. As they talk, Raava decides that Varra needs to kill Fury, who is secretly listening on a wiretap. Varra initially refuses, but eventually gives in to Raava's demands.
Talos meets with G'iah and the two sit on the bench, sharing a moment. However, the moment is soon squandered as G'iah realzies how naive her father really is about his hopes for the skrulls living on Earth. Varra returns home where Fury is waiting for her. The two talk about their relationship as they both know what is going to happen. Varra talks about wanting to be beloved by others. The conversation ends when they pull pull the trigger. However, neither of them could actually do it as they both purposely miss. Fury then leaves Varra and arrives as Raava's place. The two converse until Raava threatens Fury.
Later, President James Ritson is being escorted, unknowing of Raava's intentions. Fury and Talos intercept the covoy just as Gravik, Pagon and the troops attack in order to start a world war. Fury and Talos work together in saving the President. Seeing this, Pagon shoots Talos, who uses the rest of his strength to break the President's window, allowing Fury to free him. As the weakened Talos makes his way to Fury, he is escorted by a guard. However, the guard reveals himself to be Gravik. Although Fury shoots him, Gravik quickly heals before stabbing Talos, killing him.
Fury grieves his friend, but takes Ritson to a hospital. Gravik and his troops return to New Skrullos where the skrulls state their recent displeasure with Gravik, who has had enough. Gravik kills Pagon for speaking out over him, causing rising tensions. Beto and Zirksu decide to attack Gravik, who mows through everyone, killing nearly all Skrulls and imprisoning the rest. Falsworth makes progress and takes down Derrik Weatherby's skrull before doing the same to the Daltons.
At night, Fury meets with G'iah and tasks her with protecting Varra, who also has something for G'iah. She does so and helps Varra with an incoming skrull attack before the two go to the woods and have a ceremony for Talos, saying goodbye to him. Meanwhile, Fury meets Falsworth in Finland as Gravik gave Fury an ultimatum. Fury grabs the Harvest, which is a serum derived from various superbeings' blood as Gravik wanted it. Fury then suits up with his eye patch and tells Gravik he would meet him in New Skrullos.
Fury arrives in New Skrullos and talks with Gravik, who angrily yells at Fury, allowing the radiation to make him sick. Meanwhile, the still loyal skrulls try to attack Riston at the hospital. Gravik proceeds with his plan and uses the Harvest to make himself a super skrull. However, Fury surpises Gravik by revealing he was actually G'iah the whole time and Gravik just gave her powers as well. At this point, Fury and Falsworth start an ambush on the attacking skrulls at the hospital.
In the ambush, Fury kills Raava and saves the President. G'iah then fights Gravik as they exchange blows with different powers. G'iah eventually gets the upper hand and blasts Gravik through the chest with a Captain Marvel photon beam. This instantly kills Gravik, ending the threat. G'iah then runs to where the humans had been locked up and frees all of them including James Rhodes, Everett Ross, Rosa Dalton and more.
In the aftermath, Ritson creates an Anti-Alien Act to stop all aliens, further dividing everyone. G'iah makes her future as she joins Falsworth in a project. Before leaving to be on S.A.B.E.R. Space Station again, Fury ridicules Ritson on his alien act. He is then met by Varra. The two make up and go to space together.
