oscar’s review published on Letterboxd:
maxxxine is a thrilling, fun, and amazing way to finish up one of the most phenomenal, powerful, and excellent horror trilogies of all time. the film is a fun murder mystery filled with classic slasher elements, callbacks and nods to classic horror films and its predecessors, and with an 80’s noir detective vibe. it absolutely bodies the hollywood aesthetic. it’s dark yet comedic, bloody, gory, and fun. the cinematography, the editing, and the score were all phenomenal. mia goth once again gives a stellar performance and she carries the entire x trilogy. this film, along with the story and the themes, is perfectly connected and weaved in to x and pearl. everything makes sense and the ending is satisfying. the reveal in that last act was predictable but it perfectly wraps up and connects everything. i thought it was great! i loved how maxine’s story ended and the ending that she got, you definitely root for her! this was just such a great horror film and an amazing finale!
