Ti West concludes his horror trilogy in gorgeous, ’80s anamorphic style. Unfortunately, the landing was too clean for my liking. Though it thematically made sense, I wanted more. Two-thirds of Maxxxine I adore. The visual language sweeps and soaks you in ‘80s giallo, along with the film’s soundscape. It was a feast for the senses. Mia Goth gives another powerhouse performance, along with the stellar cast. It’s a strong entry, but my least favorite compared to Pearl and X. In short, the reveal was missing a giallo ingredient and I wanted even more Ruthlessness in Maxxxine’s arc. Nevertheless, I look forward to revisiting it.
