That is how you end a fucking trilogy. I’m continuously blown away by what Ti West can do, and he brings so much confidence into this trilogy capper.
I’d seen some criticisms of the last act and lack of development for the side characters but I’m not getting that. This is Maxine’s movie and I don’t think it would even be fair to call it a slasher because there’s so many other things going on than the killer “reveal”— which also completely worked for me. This was really the only way to end her story.
The practical effects were top notch (the close up on Buster Keaton… if ya know ya know). Again, the direction is Ti West at the top of his game— his take on 1985 really feels like 1985 without obnoxious and obvious references. Mia Goth is so damn confident as Maxine. And those needle drops…. BETTE DAVIS EYES. That song will never not make me cry. (Thank you, The Final Girls)
