Extremely Critical Belgian’s review published on Letterboxd:
My apologies for that last question review. It wasn't very well handled and I didn't give you guys much material to respond with. I hope this one is better.
So the question for this week is:
What is a commonly used phrase/term in entertainment journalism that you don't like, and why?
I have my beef with a few like "Style over substance" or "This thing that hasn't come out yet is going to be good", but probably my least favorite is the phrase "This thing will never get surpassed". I recall using this statement once with The Shawshank Redemption, and I look at that review with nothing but embarrasment because in the year that's passed since then, I've found A BUNCH of movies that I liked more. To just conclude that something has already definitively been decided as the best thing ever is not only ridiculous, but it means that you're not willing to give new things a chance. OF COURSE it can get better. You never know until it's actually happened.
(It reminds me a lot of that time the Golden Joysticks awarded Dark Souls the "Ultimate game of all time", which might be the most embarrassing name for an award ever suggested by a person)
