  • Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

    ★★★★½

If you start this movie at 10:30ish on New Year’s Eve, the clock will strike midnight around Cher and Andy Garcia’s duet of Fernando.

I honestly cant think of a better movie to flip the calendar from 2018 to 2019 with.

The first time I watched this was with my best female friend a day or 2 after I found out I got my job.

The last time I watched it, I had just gotten my first Manhattan apartment. Now…

  • Blindspotting

    Blindspotting

    ★★★★

While it is overwritten in some spots, Blindspotting is pretty much the Get Out of this year.

An unmistakably confident genre movie with a lot more than your basic thrills on its mind.

Would pair nicely with The Hate U Give.

  • The Big Short

    The Big Short

    ★★★½

I still don’t understand a damn thing anyone in this is talking about, but it’s really good.

Even more psyched to see Vice in a few days.

    Grade: 7/10

  • Home Alone

    Home Alone

    ★★★★½

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

    Merry Christmas, everybody! 🎄❄️🎅🏾

  • Elf

    Elf

    ★★★★½

Takes me back to the last day before Christmas break in elementary school and junior high, stuffing my face with candy and cookies and laughing at this with my friends.

It you don’t love this, you’re a bad person 🤷‍♂️

    Grade: 9.5/10

  • Roma

    Roma

    ★★★

*sneakily gives this 3 stars hoping no one will notice*

  • Mission: Impossible – Fallout

    Mission: Impossible – Fallout

    ★★★★½

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

A masterclass in big-budget filmmaking brought to you by the guy who set and has been holding the standard as long as I've been alive.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout is pretty much a masterpiece. It nails big moments, small moments and medium-sized moments with the same level of intensity and focus, while never stiffing the audience on the cloak-and-dagger spy stuff we go nuts over.

King to rook 4 for McQuarrie as the best action director working today.

    Your move, Nolan.

    Grade: 9.5/10

  • Dave

    Dave

    ★★★★½

The Oliver Stone cameo is now my favorite movie cameo of all time.

Let me be clear, this movie doesn't make a lick of sense whatsoever. The main premise is the Clark Kent glasses phenomenon except it's 10 times more unbelievable. If you pull strings, this will unravel completely.

And yet, 90's movies have built-in charm that I am completely helpless towards. You keep your 80's silliness. I'll happily take my warm 90's sweetness.

I will watch this at least 100 more times.

  • The Verdict

    The Verdict

    ★★★

Charlotte Rampling has one of the most fascinating faces ever put on film.

    Grade: 6.5/10

  • Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

    ★★★★

One of the best comedies of the 2000's, if not ever.

    Grade: 8.5/10

  • The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

    The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

    ★★½

    1. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
    2. All Gold Canyon
    3. Near Algodones
    4. The Mortal Remains
    5. The Gal Who Got Rattled
    6. Meal Ticket

Wanted a whole movie with Buster Scruggs. Got 3 stories I didn’t care for instead. Bad deal.

    Grade: 5.5/10

  • The Great Mouse Detective

    The Great Mouse Detective

    ★★★★½

So great it doesn’t need a “live action” adaptation.
