BlakeMower’s review published on Letterboxd:
It’s 2025! I wanted to make a paint drying post just to go over some things. Some film related, some not.
First off I wanted to update everyone on where I am mentally. I know the last time I talked about my mental health on a paint drying post I declared I was committing suicide and I’d like to apologize for that. Not only was it inappropriate to announce a suicide attempt with an A Bug’s Life quote and not only did I scare a lot of you, but it also came across as very suicide bait-y which is obviously so messed up. I’m sorry and if I’m ever in a terrible mindset like that again I will refrain from posting about it on Letterboxd.
But on a more positive note I’m pleased to tell you guys I’m doing a lot better mentally. I’ve been working out more and overall I’m finding more moments of happiness each day. I didn’t really realize the progress I had made until the night of Christmas Day where my mom told me “I feel like we finally have our Blake back”. And dammit that nearly made me cry. 2024 was really hard but I think by the end of it we found some good medicine to help me. So horray, Blake can be happy again!
To speak more about movies I just want to put it out there that I think 2024 was actually a pretty good year for movies. Sure, most of the big studio releases stunk but there were a ton of smaller releases that were fantastic. I think 2024 was the year I really explored my tastes in films and I hope to continue exploring film in 2025.
While movies will still be my main focus, I also want to get more into gaming. I finished Astro Bot a few days ago and I had a ton of fun with it. It made me want to explore gaming more and I plan to this year. I have a backloggd if you’re interested in following my journey into gaming more in-depth there. I’ve always been kind of jealous of my brother and how he has been able to really get into gaming. I’ve always just been “a Mario guy” whereas my brother has really explored everything games have to offer. I’m starting out this year by playing Batman: Arkham Asylum. I’m enjoying it so far and I plan to play the entire series. If you have any game recommendations I’ll be sure to put them on the list.
To get back to movies, I thought it be fun to try to rank every Batman film ever made as well as every Superman film ever made. I don’t know how long this will last but I think it’s a cool challenge to start the new year with. So that’s what you can expect from me for the first bit of 2025.
I unfortunately was not able to see 100+ films in theaters for 2024. I was able to in 2023, but alas I was three films short of a hundred for 2024. Hopefully I can reclaim that bragging right for 2025.
I’d like to adress how I’ve gone from just posting one-liner quip reviews to more detailed reviews. Obviously there’s nothing wrong with quip reviews, but I’ve been really happy and more fulfilled writing more about films. If you do see me just posting a quip review for a film that means a really don’t have a lot of thoughts on the film.
Finally, I just want to thank you guys for supporting me on this platform. I’ve met and become a part of a wonderful community here on Letterboxd and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. Love you all.
