Matthew Echunga was an Australian wizard who played as a Chaser on the Australian National Quidditch team during the four-hundred and twenty-second Quidditch World Cup, in 1994.

Biography

During the 1996–1997 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Echunga's Chocolate Frog Card could be won by beating Lucy Hurst at a Quidditch challenge.

Etymology

The name "Matthew" is the English form of Ματθαιος (Matthaios), which was a Greek form of the Hebrew name מַתִּתְיָהוּ (Mattityahu) meaning "gift of Yahweh".

Echunga is a town in South Australia; the name is of Aboriginal origin. It means either 'a short distance' or 'close by'.
