Coil is an American automotive and weapon manufacturer in the HD Universe of the Grand Theft Auto series.
Overview[]
Coil appears to be based on Tesla, Inc. as its name is a reference to Nikola Tesla's Tesla Coil. Keeping with this theme, its logo resembles a coiled snake. The Cyclone and the Brawler are the only vehicles that bear no resemblance to any Tesla vehicle, with the latter being the only fuel-operated vehicle. Apparently, most Coil vehicles have been advertised using a 'green energy' marketing strategy.
Coil also manufactures weapons, under the name of Coil Arms Division. Like the vehicles, Coil weapons are dependent on an electric power source, except the Combat PDW, which utilizes a conventional short-stroke piston mechanism.
In December 2021, a former Coil employee possessed top-secret evidence that the company's car batteries were actually poisoning the environment. Panicking on how this would affect the company's stock, Coil's CEO hired The Professionals to assassinate the whistleblower, providing them with two Raidens and two Brawlers for the job. However, an insider counter-contracted F. Clinton and Partner to protect the whistleblower until he was able to go public with the information.
The Cyclone II's website description states that Coil manufactures electric toothbrushes.
