"Splatter of the Bands" is the second segment of the sixth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Hailey's On It!
Synopsis[]
Hailey must decide between perfection and fun in order to win a local music festival.
Plot[]
In the style of a video documentary, Kristine puts together a presentation about the "Splatter of the Bands", an Oceanside festival that is held every year. Due to a tomato overpopulation many years ago, Oceanside was unsure what to do with them. When a terrible band came to play, it became a tradition to use tomatoes to pelt them to voice their displeasure. Since then, tomato tossing as become a sport, with Scott and Becker obsessed with it. Kristine asks her "bestie" Hailey what she plans on doing. Hailey, having to complete an item involving being in a band, will join her father and his band mates in performing for the show. The band actually wants to be pelted, much to Hailey's confusion.
The band settle on a sea shanty called "Sea Sauce" which Hailey attempts to get the band to perfect, despite Kai telling her to have fun, but they keep getting distracted and refuse to practice. While singing, Hailey meets Frederix and Olga of DAS B3AT who like her singing and ask that they join up with them. Wanting to complete the task on her to-do list, Hailey agrees. However, Frederix and Olga turn out to be very demanding and consider tiny missteps as imperfect, forcing Hailey to try harder to play. The day of the show comes as Scott, Becker and Sunny happily grab their tomatoes to toss at the performers. Hailey is once again reminded by Kai to have fun.
As Kai's band begins their song, Hailey realizes that she had entered for the wrong reasons and rejoins her father to sing "Sea Sauce", which ends up getting positive praise from everyone and successfully completing the item. When Kai's bandmates admit disappointment over not being pelted, Hailey joins them in one of their sillier songs and happily get hit by everyone. Frederix and Olga go up next, but their obnoxious behavior rubs everyone the wrong way and get pelted anyway. Kristine's documentary is shown to the class, but Mr. Williams is confused as it was supposed to be about the solar system, which Kristine claims is still accurate as it took place in the solar system.
