The recommended configuration of Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server is a configuration that has all components of the solution (Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server, web interface, PostgreSQL database and Backup) on the same server with the mail transfer agent (MTA). Data between the mail transfer agent (MTA) and Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server is exchanged in non-encrypted form.

If at least one of the components of Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server is located on a different server than Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server, your corporate network administrator must perform additional actions to ensure the security of your data related to email messages. For example, you can physically isolate the network connection between the server hosting the MTA and the server hosting Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server.

If Backup is located on a different server than the MTA and other components of Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server, email messages may be transmitted over the network connection. Your corporate network administrator must ensure the security of the connection between the server hosting Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server and the server hosting Backup. You can ensure the security of the connection in one of the following ways:

  • Physically isolate the network connection.
  • In the router rules, restrict access to the local area network with Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server and Backup.
  • Use a network file system with encryption of transmitted data. For example, you can use the NFS 4 or SMB FS file systems.

If the PostgreSQL database is located on a different server than the MTA and other components of Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server, your corporate network administrator must ensure the security of the connection between the server hosting Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server and the server hosting the PostgreSQL database. You can ensure the security of the connection in one of the following ways:

  • Physically isolate the network connection.
  • Configure SSL encryption of the connection between the server hosting Kaspersky Security 8 for Linux Mail Server and the server hosting the PostgreSQL database.
