1. What developmental challenge did Ishaan face?

 Ishaan Awasthi is the central character in the film Like Stars on Earth, and he has a dyslexic
problem. Dyslexia mainly affects an individual's reading and writing processes; therefore, it is
regarded as a learning disability. The film captures Ishaan's inability to process letters and words
because of dyslexia through his intense struggle with this particular task, which culminates in
confusion each time he attempts to read or write. As fate would have it, this condition adversely
affects his performance at school and creates misunderstandings with his teachers and family
who wrongly interpret his difficulties as laziness or lack of effort. Despite artistic capabilities, he
cannot meet the usually academically required standards at school; thus, feeling alienated and
misunderstood. The film captures the emotional-psychological effects of dyslexia when it
adversely impacts a child's self-esteem and peer relationships.

2. How did his teacher nikumbh apply principle of child development and learning to support him?

 In Like Stars on Earth, Ishaan’s teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, applies several key principles of
child development to support him. First, he observes Ishaan’s struggles and realizes that his
learning difficulties are due to dyslexia and not because he is lazy or lacks intelligence.
Nikumbh’s comprehension of Ishaan’s condition makes him adjust his teaching strategy as per
the specific needs of Ishaan. Instead of conventional academic standards, he celebrates Ishaan’s
strengths, notably his artistic abilities, which assist Ishaan in developing confidence and self-
worth.
 Nikumbh applies positive reinforcement by praising Ishaan’s creativity and offering emotional
support to negate the feelings of failure that Ishaan had experienced. He moves away from the
traditional, performance-oriented learning approach and uses visual and tactile methods
instead, which engage Ishaan in many ways that are appropriate for his learning preference. This
personalized approach makes Ishaan feel expensive and valued, thus promoting his holistic
development. It is due to Nikumbh’s ability to connect with Ishaan on an emotional level and
provide uncritical support that he would create a safe space for Ishaan to thrive in. Through such
methods, he would teach how imperative it is to bare one’s awareness of a child’s particular
developmental needs and shift teaching strategies accordingly.

3. What lesson from the movie can you apply as a future educator?

 Like Stars on Earth teaches vital lessons that every future educator needs to learn-the
recognition of and understanding of each student's individual needs- just like how Ishaan's
teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, realized that Ishaan's problems in class were not because he
was lazy but due to dyslexia. Educators should observe and identify the special challenges that
each student faces. Teaching methods can be designed to accommodate different learning
styles, and this support is absolutely necessary for all students. The film also emphasizes the
importance of encouraging the creativity of students and their hidden talent outside of
academics, which enhances the feelings of confidence and motivation, particularly among
students who may not perform well in traditional subjects.
 Finally, the film teaches patience, empathy, and positive reinforcement in the classroom. Thus,
Nikumbh's empathetic approach in supporting Ishaan through his difficulties and celebrating his
small victories shows how important it is for educators to develop a safe and nurturing
classroom environment. Encouraging, recognizing effort, and helping children feel understood
will develop a positive self-image and a growth mindset in students. Effective change would
involve adapting teaching methods. Adaptability was the key when Nikumbh adapted hands-on,
visual learning techniques that played to Ishaan's strong points. Such principles of empathy and
patience coupled with flexibility can be considered for creating an inclusive and supportive
learning environment where all students can succeed.

4. How does the movie highlight the importance of understanding each learners individuality?

 In Like Stars on Earth, illustrating that each learner is unique is paramount because the film
reveals how the inability of those in Ishaan's life to recognize and understand his struggles with
dyslexia contribute to the way that turns his life around. At first, Ishaan is judged by his teachers
and parents as lazy and unruly because they fail to realize that his shortcomings are actually
caused by dyslexia, a learning disability that makes reading and writing difficult. This
misunderstanding leaves Ishaan feeling isolated, discouraged, and misunderstood. The film
shows how failure to recognize the individuality of a child's learning process results in lack of
support or promotion and the eventual creation of a poor self-image.
 The arrival of Ram Shankar Nikumbh, the new art teacher, changes everything. Understanding
Ishaan's problems, he 'wipes clean' the created slate and decides to give him artistic expression.
Rather than teaching to traditional academic measures, he will adapt his teaching methods to
suit Ishaan's strength areas in visual and hands-on learning. This shifts the perspective on how
understanding each learner's individuality can lead to a more supportive and effective
educational experience. Recognizing every child has a different way of learning might help
educators create an environment that makes each student feel valued, capable, and encouraged
to fulfill all potential.
