EVERY CHILD IS SPECIAL (Taare Zameen Par) 2007
A. Film Introduction:
The film is all about the story of a child that has dyslexia in the film we see
how this child bully by her classmates because of his disorder or uniqueness and
how his parents slowly accept his disorder through the help of a great teacher
that helps him gain back his confidence. Watching this movie touched my heart
about people with disabilities and gave me more motivation to become a teacher
to help them in the future.
B. Plot Summary:
Ishaan Awasthi is an eight-year-old boy full of enthusiasm and creativity
but experiencing challenges in life. His family is much more interested in Ishaan's
older brother, who is considered intelligent. And ignored Ishaan’s talent in art.
Ishaan is also experiencing difficulty adjusting to school; he cannot read or write.
Those letters he sees are moving, and the letters and numbers were often
reversed as he writes. He got depressed and confused due to his troubles at
school and at home. His parents eventually chose to transfer him to a different

school thinking that he could learn better at that school unknowing that it would
cause Ishaan even more depression. And even lost his passion for art but Ram
Shankar Nikumbh his new teacher in art noticed Ishaan and his difficulties. He
found out that Ishaan has dyslexia, a disorder characterized by difficulties in
learning to read or comprehend words, letters, and other symbols which is why
he decided to help him. Nikumbh recognized the child's artistic talent. He had
seen the kid's potential. Nikumbh went to talk to Ishaan's family and discussed
the child's situation and why he's unique. His parents felt embarrassed of
themselves for failing to see their son's talent. Nikumbh encouraged the child to
learn to read and write correctly. They formed a strong friendship. Nikumbh
asked the school's principal about organizing an art program to demonstrate
to the school that Ishaan is not the person they believe he is. At the event, Ishaan
competes against several artists from his school, including his teacher, Nikmubh.
And Ishaan won this art program. And his parents became happy and proud of
him.
C. Setting Spotlight:
I think the settings of the story make it more realistic and also the theme
color is perfect for a comedy and dramatic movie. Their choice of places is good.
D. Character Limelight:
Main characters
Ishaan Awasthi is a boy with dyslexia and has a hard time reading and
writing but he is good at art.
Ram Shankar Nikumbh is a teacher of Ishaan in arts. He is the one who
helps Ishaan to overcome the difficulty he portrayed in the movie as a
compassionate teacher and has a true passion for teaching.
Rajan Damodaran is a also disabled child who is Ishaan's highly helpful
and supportive friend.
Yohan Awasthi Ishaan's elder brother is a high achiever student whose
shadow Ishaan remains.
Maya Awasthi Ishaan's mother. She cooks delicious meals and cares
for Ishaan when he's hurt. She is saddened because Ishaan must attend
boarding school, but she believes that it's for his good.
Nandkishore Awasthi Ishaan’s father. He is always angry with Ishaan
because he is always in trouble but in the end, he loves Ishaan and is still
his father.

E. Likes and Dislikes:

I like how realistic the movie is and the movie’s story and message like
how the actors or actresses give just to the character that they portray this is one
of my favorite movies becomes it really touches our hearts and makes us
understand the people with disabilities situations and difficulties in life. I only
dislike the editing of the movie but overall, this is a great movie.
F. Lesson Learn:
The message of the movie is children are like stars on Earth, they are all
special in their ways. Meaning there is no perfect child, but they have different
abilities that the others don’t have. And I learn that as a teacher I need to be
more compassionate and patient with them like Ram Shankar Nikumbh because
we are role models to them and If we guide them in a good way for sure they will
have a great future.
G. Recommendations:
I will highly recommend this first to my family because I think they will
enjoy it and also to my friends and especially to the people that are close-
minded, the people with disabilities.
H. As a future teacher, how did the film help you to become an effective
inclusive educator?
The movie motivates me to what kind of teacher should be in the future that’s
because the movie character Ram Shankar Nikumbh he very compassionate
teacher you can see to him that teaching is his passion and we can see to him
how patient he teaches Ishaan and that’s a true teacher a teacher that has love
and care to his student and as a future teacher we need to imitate his character
of being a teacher and him one of our role models and if we do that for sure we
will produce not only an excellent future leader but also compassionate person.
