Saint Paul (/ˌseɪntˈpɔːl/; abbreviated St. Paul) is the capital and second-most populous city of the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of 2014, the city's estimated population was 297,640. Saint Paul is the county seat of Ramsey County, the smallest and most densely populated county in Minnesota. The city lies mostly on the east bank of the Mississippi River in the area surrounding its point of confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Minneapolis, the state's largest city. Known as the "Twin Cities", the two form the core of Minneapolis–Saint Paul, the 16th-largest metropolitan area in the United States, with about 3.5 million residents.
Founded near historic Native American settlements as a trading and transportation center, the city rose to prominence when it was named the capital of the Minnesota Territory in 1849. Though Minneapolis is better-known nationally, Saint Paul contains the state government and other important institutions. Regionally, the city is known for the Xcel Energy Center, home of the Minnesota Wild, and for the Science Museum of Minnesota. As a business hub of the Upper Midwest, it is the headquarters of companies such as Ecolab. Saint Paul, along with its Twin City, Minneapolis, is known for its high literacy rate. It was the only city in the United States with a population of 250,000 or more to see an increase in circulation of Sunday newspapers in 2007.
The libretto was begun in 1832 by the composer with Pastor Julius Schubring, a childhood friend, pulling together passages from the New Testament (chiefly the Acts of the Apostles) and Old Testament. It also features chorales or hymn settings after Bach's manner.
Composition of the music began in 1834, and the work was premiered on May 22, 1836 (having been completed in April of that year) at the Lower Rhenish Music Festival in Düsseldorf. The English premiere was in Liverpool on October 3, 1836 in a translation by Mendelssohn's friend, Karl Klingermann. Contralto Mary Shaw was one of the soloists at the English premiere. The first performance in the United States was in Boston on March 14, 1837. Mendelssohn himself conducted the first performance in Leipzig in the Paulinerkirche on March 16, 1837. Numerous performances followed in Europe and in the United States.
During Mendelssohn's lifetime, St. Paul was a popular and frequently performed work. However, compared with such oratorios as Handel's Messiah, Bach's Christmas Oratorio and St Matthew Passion or even Mendelssohn's own Elijah, it has failed to maintain its place in the choral repertory and is now infrequently performed in its entirety.
Saint Paul's Union Depot is an historic railroad station and intermodal transit hub located in the Lowertown neighborhood of the city of Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. It currently serves inter-city rail, inter-city bus, and local bus services. METRO Green Line also serves Union Depot, through a station outside the headhouse.
At one time the Saint Paul Union Depot Company controlled 9.24 miles (14.87km) of St. Paul trackage and terminal facilities, including the depot building. The company was operated in tandem with the Minnesota Transfer Railway Company, with effective control of both properties exercised by the same board, composed of representatives of the nine joint tenants.
Gary Corbett kills a pair of claim jumpers who did likewise to his father. He is charged with murder, but cannot be taken to Juneau to stand trial until the weather permits. Marshal John Masters keeps him in town until the prisoner can be moved.
Roxie Reagan, who sings at Tom LaRue's saloon, falls in love with Corbett, but she is trapped in a loveless marriage to John Reagan, an alcoholic has-been actor. LaRue also is in love with Roxie, and he and a local judge are suspected by Corbett of being in cahoots with the claim jumpers.
LaRue tries to frame Corbett for another murder, then sets the jail on fire. John Reagan courageously comes to Corbett's rescue, losing his own life in the process. The marshal deals with LaRue, but suddenly reveals that he is the one who has been backing the murderous claim jumpers all along. Corbett manages to get the better of Masters, then sets sail for San Francisco with his bride-to-be, Roxie.
Alaska is a periodical devoted to news and discussion of issues and features of and from Alaska. Most of its readership consists of persons outside of Alaska who are interested in the Alaskan way of life.
History and profile
Alaska magazine was founded in 1935 in Ketchikan, Alaska, by Emery Fridolf Tobin (1895-1977) and J. Ray Roady (1907-1997). Tobin established himself as an opponent of Alaska statehood, although this may have been contradictory, given his ties to the Democratic party and the fact that he and Roady served as State Representatives in 1959.
Alaska magazine was originally titled the Alaska Sportsman Magazine, a name it retained until 1969. It operated much then as it does today, being sold through newsstand sales and subscriptions. The major difference in its early days was the fact that paper stock to print the magazine arrived via steamship, posing the threat of delays, and it operated out of a small basement. Another major difference is that the editorial and sales offices have moved to Alaska's economic center, the city of Anchorage.

St. Paul Island, in 4K
I had the privilege of visiting St. Paul, AK for work recently and thought it would be a great place to capture on my drone, being that it is so remote. St. Paul Island is one of the four Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea. Nestled quite squarely between the Aleutian islands, mainland Alaska and Russia it makes for a very remote plateau of volcanic rock, fur seals, and roughly 500 residents. I hope you enjoy this unique landscape through this video as much as I did visiting in person.

St. Paul Island, Alaska. Bering Sea. July 2016. Phone video / photo mashup of my 4 days there.
This footage is completely made up of short cell phone videos and cell phone photos. Video clips up to the 38 minute mark, then photos after that. As such, the quality is what you might expect from a cell phone camera. Like most of my other videos this is simply a record of my trip.
In July 2016 one of my several trips to Alaska for a birding adventure was to the Bearing Sea island of St. Paul. Part of the Pribilof Islands, St. Paul is a well-known but desolate birding location. Thankfully, there are some aspects of civilization available to make a visit there worthwhile and pretty comfortable. Subsisting primarily on the seafood industry, St. Paul is also mostly inhabited by Aleut people.

If you ever get a chance to visit, I'd go for it. Just remember to bring water-resistant shoes and clothes.

St. Paul in the winter-Kids are crying for their dinner Quick smoke and a drink, then it's time for bed He said, ";Why do you always seem so down? Is something lost that can't be found?"; You wait, hesitate, and tell him you're okay But it's a lie-You can't look him in the eye 'Cause he won't ever understand you You want to believe, that things will change It worries your heart, oh to feel this strange Bu you can't stop the world-No, from spinning around You'll never stop the rain from falling down, down, down Down, down, down It's colder than I remember, at this time last December The win was blowin' and, the skies are always grey You said someday you're gonna leave that man...realize all that we've planned Start all over again, under the southern sun But it's a lie-You can't look me in the eye Knowin' I won't understand you Yeh I want to believe, oh that things will change And it worries my heart, yeh to feel this strange But I can't stop the world-No, from spinning around You'll never stop the rain from falling down, down, down I hope that you understand-You're always welcome at my door And I hope you understand, that I";m not hoping anymore...hoping anymore Yeh you want to believe, oh that things will change And it worries your heart, mmm to feel this strange But you can't stop the world-No, from spinning around You'll never stop the rain from fallin' down, down, down Down, down, down
