So, at arduinna’s urgings, mollyamory and I just power-chugged our way through Once Upon a Time, which it turns out is pretty damn good, and which as also left me with a lot of Thinky Thoughts. I have no idea if these thinky thoughts are just repetitions of what the fandom has already discussed to death, because I haven't been watching long enough to track down the discussion and fiction communities. But I'm gonna talk about them anyway, because Once Upon a Time has a few things to say about certain subjects, and is willing to use a mallet if necessary to get its points through. Or are they? Sometimes I wonder how much of what the writers of a show do they actually intended. I'm pretty sure they intend the abandonment themes they are writing into the show, but portraying all the men as weak or mcguffins? Not as sure.
The two themes we see throuhghout the show: Men are Weak. Never Abandon Family.
(Spoilers through episode Stable Boy below.)
( I'm not going to talk about the Family thing tonight. Instead: Men are Weak. )
So basically this year we have two really good shows where the action is almost entirely powered by the desire of a woman to have revenge, and the fact that she has what it takes to get it.
Regina v. Emily Thorne: Place Your Bets.

cats and bats and things with wings...
Mar. 27th, 2012 11:06 pm1. So I was making up a hefty pan of taco meat, the better to have tacos salad with. And off to the side, I had a mollyamory chopping up lettuce and tomatos, for said taco salads.
Suddenly, a tremendous wailing and hollering arose, the likes of which I can't really describe. Mollyamory has a career in yodeling.
So, I looked over, fully expecting and dreading to discover that she had lopped a finger off. Probably an important one. I thought that there would be gouts of blood and that the lettuce would be inedible. But instead, she was wearing a cat on her head. He was pretty interested in the lettuce she was cutting, and the knife she was waving, and disinclined to leave, and therefore, hollering continued until I went around and removed him.
Best we can tell, he simply decided to take a flying leap off the top of the fridge and come over to see if we had anything for him to eat, as he is BOTTOMLESS.
This is pretty much a good summation of what our life has been like for the last few months, actually, as if it's not one of us hollering, it's one of the other cats.
2. We have been using hulu plus to catch up on Grimm and Once Upon a Time.
Grimm: There is a lot more promise here than I expected.
Once Upon a time: ( minor short opinion spoilers )
3. I have ordered a Roku, so I can ditch my set top box, free myself from the evils of cable, and watch hulu plus while upstairs exercising. Well, that's the theory, anyway. Also the Roku was on sale.
4. I shouted at my flowers to not come up for weeks, and they ignored me, and now the daffodils are fully in bloom and out there shivering and miserable, and the crocuses are just plain dead. The tulips are four inches up, and I have no idea if they will survive this return to actual spring instead of the weird summer-spring thing that faked out everything into blooming.
5. Haven't been posting much. Last year really killed my ability to do a lot for a while. I thought about writing up a year-end wrap up of 2011, and just how horrible it was, but as I was telling a friend this weekend, I was kind of scared that if I did that, too close to the end of the year, 2011 would come back and kick my ass and gut 2012 with a shiv and leave behind no hostages. Because that's how bad 2011 was. I just don't want to draw its attention back again.
Gotta try and get back into the swing of things again.
