It doesn’t exactly defy gravity, but it floats along amiably enough but for waaaay too long. 

Ariana Grande steals the movie but she was always the star of Act One. Cynthia Erivo brings a heart to Elphaba that I found missing on stage.   

Everything else feels excessive and bloated and yet they couldn’t have one shirtless Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) scene?  Priorities, people.  

And there’s still a Part 2.  Watching the whole thing in one sitting will be like watching “Shoah,” but about talking animals.
