Robbie Cooper’s review published on Letterboxd:
Believe me when I tell you that me giving a musical 3 stars is as close to perfection as can be, if you like musicals.
The main thing that bugs me about them is the sudden bursting into song and singing about what we're going through instead of just talking. It really gets old, especially after a couple hours! And while Wicked does do that quite often I was still into the movie thanks to its heartfelt emotional story and terrific performances from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Also the production design, as we've come to expect from Oz films, is top tier.
Those of you who enjoy this particular genre are bound to get a kick out of it, but for me the fact that it's a part one and a musical knocks it down a peg or two. I acknowledge its a very well made film, but sadly just not for me.
