There is no gameplay during this mission, as it is simply formed by two cutscenes. The first begins automatically after completion of the first mission and the following mission is automatically triggered following the end of the second cutscene.
Carl Johnson, after arriving in Grove Street, enters his childhood home and finds a photograph of his recently deceased mother, Beverly. He takes a chair and sits down, reminiscing on an occasion where his sister, Kendl threatened to tell Beverly about his antics. Big Smoke, an old friend of Carl's, enters the living room from the kitchen with a baseball bat and threatens to attack Carl, mistaking him for a burglar. He explains himself to Big Smoke and the two hug. Carl and Big Smoke talk briefly about Beverly's death, with Smoke promising to help find her killer. They leave the house and drive to the cemetery in Vinewood in Smoke's Perennial.
Reward[]
There is no monetary reward for completing the mission, but the mission Sweet & Kendl is unlocked automatically after the end of it. In the remastered versions for Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PS5, the Getting Started achievement/trophy is unlocked.

CJ enters the house. CJ picks up a picture of Beverly Johnson off of the floor and looks at it. As he looks around the house, he recalls childhood memories.
CJ? Awww, my dawg, wassup? (laughs) Hey baby, you okay, man?
CJ:
No man, it's my Moms, homie...
Big Smoke:
Hey, I don't know why this had to happen, but I promise you, I'm gonna find out who killed your Moms. The streets is cold, dog. Like it says in the book, we are blessed and cursed.
CJ:
...What fucking book?
Big Smoke:
Same things that make us laugh...make us cry. But right now we gotta take care of our business and go see your brother at the cemetery. Come on, let's bounce.
CJ and Big Smoke exit the house, and get into Smoke's black Perennial.
Big Smoke:
You wanna drive?
CJ:
Yeah, that's cool. Nice car, Smoke.
Big Smoke:
You know me, it's not cut, keep the value in it, keep it real.
