Brian Johnson is a character who is mentioned in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
History[]
Background[]
Early Life[]
Brian was the youngest known son of Beverly Johnson and the younger brother of Carl, Sean and Kendl Johnson. It is implied that he bore a strong resemblance to Carl, as Emmet initially mistook Carl for Brian when they first met. According to Carl's flashbacks, it appears the two were close, and enjoyed creating mischief together.
Brian was associated with the Grove Street Families due to being the younger brother of the gang's leader, Sweet, but his role within the gang was unknown. Brian lived in the Johnson House in Ganton, Los Santos, until his death.
Death[]
Brian died in 1987. The cause of his death was never revealed, though it is implied that he was killed by a rival gang and Carl was present but he did not attempt to help Brian.
Sweet blamed Carl for Brian's death, which resulted in Carl moving to Liberty City. Carl did not attend Brian's funeral, which Sweet confirms by saying: "That's another funeral you ran away from, fool. Just like Brian's."
Brian died at the age of 10, according to pre-release Rockstar information provided to PlayStation Magazine articles.[1]
Events of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]
Brian's death plays a major role in Carl and Sweet's relationship.
In 1992, Carl returns to Los Santos after his mother, Beverly, was killed by the Ballas. He arrived at the funeral after it had ended, making Sweet angry at Carl for missing another one.
Officer Tenpenny later mentions Brian when he, Pulaski and Hernandez kidnap Carl and take him out to Angel Pine. CJ expresses his disappointment over Big Smoke’s betrayal, to which Tenpenny makes his point by saying Carl and Smoke were never homies for life since Smoke was working with C.R.A.S.H. and not Grove Street and also because he and the rest of the gang ran him out of town for letting Brian die, showing that Tenpenny is aware of Brian’s death and agrees that it was CJ’s fault.
When Carl and Sweet are waiting outside Big Smoke's Crack Palace just before they attack it, Sweet attempts to follow Carl, but Carl tells him that he has to go in alone and that he is doing this for Brian, as he "let him die".
