Big Brother Canada 12 is the twelfth and final season of Big Brother Canada.
Following the conclusion of this season, Big Brother Canada entered its second hiatus on June 5, 2024.[1] A few weeks later, on June 27, Big Brother Canada announced that the series would not return for a thirteenth season and had officially ended its run.[2]
Background[]
On June 7, 2023, at the Corus Upfront, Global TV announced that Big Brother Canada was given the green light to produce its twelfth season in 2024.[3]
Airing Schedule[]
Cast Reveal[]
On February 28, 2024, Global released the names of 12 new houseguests and the fact that two "Mystery All-Stars" would also be playing the season. Their identities are set to be revealed during the premiere.[4]
The House[]
The photos of the house were officially revealed on February 26, 2024.[5]
Sponsors[]
On February 27, 2024, Global announced a list of 11 sponsors for the season, a series record.[6]
Twists[]
- Mystery All-Stars: Alongside the 12 new players, two "Mystery All-Stars" were announced during the cast reveal, with their identities set to be revealed during the premiere. They were later revealed to be Victoria Woghiren, the first juror of Big Brother Canada 9, and Anthony Douglas, the runner up of Big Brother Canada 7. They were granted immunity for the first week.
- Choose Your Entourage: The new houseguests will compete to earn the right to choose which of the All-Stars they want to support. The order they finish in the competition will be the order they get to choose who they want to support, up until each Entourage had six members. The two All-Stars will then compete head to head for the first Head of Household competition, and anyone who joined their Entourage will be safe for the week if they win. The losing All-Star will remain immune, but anyone who joined their Entourage will be eligible for eviction.
- Executive Power of Veto: On Day 33, the Executive Veto came into play after going missing from the trophy room earlier in the week. A Chain of Rejection took place. The opposite of a Chain of Safety, the current HOH will call out and name one person they do not want to win the Executive Veto. That person will then eliminate someone else, with the process repeating until the last person left standing is granted the Executive Veto. The person who has the Executive Veto will then be able to save one of the two nominees if they choose to do so; however the person that they save will choose their own replacement nominee instead of the HOH. The current HOH and Veto Holder remain ineligible to become the replacement nominee. The remaining houseguests who are eligible to vote will then publicly cast their votes to evict one of the two nominees, with the HOH only voting in the event of a tie.
- The Movie Night Massacre: On Day 40, a special Double Eviction took place. The houseguests would compete in a competition for immunity but also to determine the order that they cast the "roles" of the week in. First place would receive immunity and could cast the first role, second place would get to cast the remaining options, and so on. Whoever placed second to last in the competition would cast the final role by default, while whoever finished in last place would not get to cast anything, and would find out about the roles when they were announced by Arisa. No one can cast themselves in a role. The game would then proceed as normal, with a Power of Veto competition and an eviction.
- Massacre Nominations: While the role of the Head of Household will be cast, there is a chance that they will not get to name their own nominations, if those roles get cast before their turn. Anyone is eligible to be nominated except for the person who won safety. In the event of a replacement nominee, the HOH would regain full control and could choose the replacement themselves.
- Cancel An Eviction Vote: Someone will be selected to not vote in the eviction in the event that they are not the replacement nominee.
- Chosen Veto Players: The three Veto Players will also be roles that are cast, removing the need for a random draw.
- Slop Pass: Someone will be given a Slop Pass, preventing them from being a Have-Not for the duration of the season.
