Bigg Boss 12 (Hindi)

Bigg Boss 12 (Hindi) is the twelfth season of the Hindi version of Bigg Boss.

Background[]

Development[]

The season was confirmed in April 2018.^[1] On July 25, 2018, Salman Khan confirmed that he will be hosting the season.^[2] On August 12, 2018, the first promo was released.^[3]

House[]

The house pictures were revealed on September 16, 2018. The house followed the theme of a "Beach House".^[4]

Eye[]

The official eye was revealed on August 10, 2018.^[5] The eye is split with red on one side and blue on the other; red representing fire and blue representing water.

Casting[]

Colors TV invited the civilians to send their video clips^[6] through a streaming application called Voot on 15 April in order to audition for the show. It was later revealed by the show producers that this season would feature housemates in pairs (any sort of pairs; friends, co-workers, spouses, siblings, etc.), therefore declaring the theme "Vichitra Jodis", which translates to "Strange Pairs".^[7]

On August 2, 2018, Srishty Rode was revealed as the first confirmed housemate to enter.^[8] On September 15, 2018 a promo of housemates Neha Pendse and Sreesanth Nair were released.^[9]

Twists[]

Celebrities vs Civilians: For the third season in a row, Celebrities will compete with Civilians.
Singles vs Pairs: Like Bigg Boss 9 (Hindi), this season also features civilians and two celebrities in any sort of pairs like friends, co-workers, spouses, siblings, etc. They would compete with the singles who were celebrities.
- Project DNA: A pair of sisters, Saba and Somi Khan, entered the house, competing as separate housemates.
Outhouse: Four housemates entered the the outhouse in pairs, a day before the start of the show. The public had power to vote two housemates into the main house.

Controversies[]

Through their time in the house, housemates will do or say things that are not acceptable to the rules that were explained to them before they entered the house. If an action is deemed too offensive to the viewing public, a housemate can be ejected or given a warning by the producers of the show. The following housemates were involved in a breach of the rules and were either given a warning or ejection by the Bigg Boss producers.

Anup Jalota's entry[]

Hindi12 Anup Jasleen — Anup Jalota and Jasleen Matharu during the premiere.

Singer Anup Jalota's entry became controversial due to his pairing with 28 year old, Jasleen Matharu.^[10]^[11] They both were introduced as a couple who were in love with each other which shocked the viewers. Post there evictions both denied this and their relation is just as a teacher-student. Jasleen had said post eviction, "The truth is that there has always been a guru-shishya relationship between us. Before entering the Bigg Boss house, Anup Ji had called me on stage by referring to me as his shishya. Since it was a premier show with Salman Khan and Anup ji, I immediately thought of playing a stupid prank. I went on stage and cracked a joke that we were in a relationship since three years and are going in the house as a couple. I thought Anup Ji will react to the joke but he didn’t and in no time Salman sent us into the house. The prank was left incomplete and could not be cleared." Post this revelation the viewers slammed the show's producers and channel for fooling them just to get the season more popular and increase their ratings.^[12]

Neha's controversial eviction[]

Neha Pendse was one housemate who was being loved by the viewers.^[13] People loved her honesty and will power to contribute in the house. All though she was saved by the public three times, she got evicted in the fourth week when she started to improve her game. After this the viewers started a angry trend on social media named 'Bring back Neha' and also lashed out at the producers who favouring other housemates. Neha's eviction was termed at unfair.^[14]

Megha-Deepak's fight[]

During a task in the twelfth week, Deepak Thakur comments made Megha Dhade loose her cool. After a big argument, Megha threw her shoe at Deepak which became a huge controversy. Viewers started questioning her winning status of Bigg Boss Marathi 1. Megha was nominated and punished.^[15]

Surbhi's accusations[]

Surbhi Rana has been one housemate who was in the headlines throughout her time on the show. Her comments used to be quite controversial. On Day 72, a controversy started after Surbhi accused Romil Chaudhary on starring her in an inappropriate way. After hearing this Romil was left shocked and upset and denied her accusations and said he is a married man.^[16]
