Big Brother 24 is the 24th season of the broadcasted edition of Big Brother (U.S.) and the 28th season overall.

This season introduced a new cast and featured several notable events and twists that shaped the game's dynamics. These included the dissolution of early majority alliances like Old Skool and Po's Pack, the formation and long-term control of The Leftovers alliance, and the introduction of the Festie Bestie twist and split house double eviction. The season also saw Michael Bruner's impressive competition performance, discussions about implicit bias leading to Kyle Capener's eviction, and Taylor Hale's journey from facing mistreatment to ultimately winning the game. Notably, this season crowned the first African-American female winner, who also made history by simultaneously winning America's Favorite Houseguest.

The season was first officially announced by CBS after the airing of the Big Brother 23 (US) finale, where host Julie Chen-Moonves reminded viewers that Celebrity Big Brother 3 (US) was happening as well in the coming winter, after its initial announcement a few weeks earlier.

Twists

• Backstage Boss: On Night 1, all 16 houseguests would randomly select a ticket to participate in the first Head of Household competition. One of those houseguests would unknowingly pick the "Backstage Boss" pass. This houseguest would be safe from the week and cannot participate in any competitions. After the first HOH was crowned, the Backstage Boss was required to select three houseguests to receive "Backstage Passes". These three would be nominated to potentially leave during the first eviction and would not be able to participate in any competition either. Unknowingly to the rest of the house, America was given the option to save one of the three. On Eviction Night, one of remaining two Backstage houseguests would compete against the houseguest evicted by the house vote in a Hit The Road Competition where the loser would be that night's evictee.
  • Due to Paloma walking from the game, the twist was cancelled. The competition that would've been the Backstage Duel was incorporated into the first part of the Week 2 HOH competition instead. It has never been confirmed, but it was assumed by many fans that the Backstage Boss would have chosen to save one of the two remaining Backstage houseguests, leaving the last one to compete against the voted out houseguest.
• Festie Besties: During the Week 3 Head of Household competition, the houseguests were grouped together in pairs. Similar in format to the Dynamic Duos twist in Big Brother 13 (US), each week the Head of Household would have the sole power nominate one group of "Besties" for eviction while their partner would be immune for the week. For the Power of Veto, one additional group of "Besties" would be chosen to participate. At the end of the week, the group of "Besties" would be divided up with the remaining houseguest able to select any group of "Besties" to join that they want creating a trio, and the possibility for a quartet. In the remaining weeks, if a trio or quartet is nominated, all of the houseguests would be nominated and compete for the Power of Veto ignoring the rule where only six houseguests could compete in after it was introduced in Big Brother 5 (US).
• Split House Double Eviction: Before the Week 7 Head of Household competition, Julie announced to the remaining houseguests that the house would be split in half for Double Eviction to end the week. After the two Heads of Household were crowned the house was split by schoolyard pick into two separate groups of five. Big BroChella will live inside the main house for the entire week while Dyre Fest will be secluded to the backyard only. The two groups would not able to communicate at all and will not see each other until the end of the week when two houseguests, one from each group, will be evicted from the house without getting to say goodbye to anyone from the opposite group. The Dyre Fest group also had to build their own Veto Competition.

Controversies

Mistreatment of Taylor Hale

Taylor Hale, the eventual winner of the season, faced significant mistreatment from other houseguests early in the game. She was subjected to microaggressions, social isolation, and unfounded accusations. This led to widespread criticism from fans and former houseguests, who called out the behavior as racist and bullying.

Daniel Durston and Nicole Layog in particular faced backlash for their treatment of Taylor, most notably after an incident during the third week where Daniel berated a confused Taylor, blaming her for Paloma Aguilar's voluntary exit from the game while insinuating that she was trying to do the same to Nicole. This outburst was widely condemned by viewers and led to calls for their removal from the show.

Kyle Capener's Racial Optics

Kyle Capener was criticized for suggesting an alliance based on race, proposing to target non-white houseguests. This led to his eventual eviction and a house meeting where his comments were addressed. Kyle later apologized for his actions both in the house and after his eviction.

Production Intervention

CBS and the show's producers were criticized for their handling of these issues, with many viewers calling for more direct intervention. In response, CBS released a statement acknowledging the concerns and promising to address them, including providing additional support and training for houseguests.
