Celebrity Big Brother 3 (US) is the third edition of Celebrity Big Brother in Big Brother U.S.

Background

Development

After years of having rumors regarding a silent cancellation of Big Brother US's Celebrity Edition, CBS announced via Twitter on September 9, 2021 a new celebrity season slated to air around the early months of 2022 opposite the 2022 Winter Olympics. On November 10, 2021, CBS confirmed that the show would premiere on February 2, 2022.

Similar to the previous season, various fake lists were circulated around the internet. Some rumors turned out to be true.

The cast was released during the Wednesday, January 26th episode of The Amazing Race 33.

Two days prior to the cast release, houseguest Teddi Mellencamp released an image of her future work schedule prior to entering the house. A section of the image stated, "EPISODE 2: (to air 1/27...big brother announcement episode)". Todrick Hall would join the cast after reportedly turning the opportunity down for season 2.

Prize Money

The celebrities are competing for the grand prize of $250,000.

Twists

• First HoH Sit-Out: Ahead of the first HoH Competition, a houseguest was told they needed to volunteer to be the "Master of Ceremonies" and help host the competition, thus sitting out of the competition and being unable to win. In a difference to past seasons, the person who volunteered was not given safety for the cycle, and was thus still eligible to be nominated and evicted. Todd Bridges volunteered and promptly sat out of the competition.
• Mon Won's Gala Gift: Following the first HoH Competition, Julie revealed the Gala Gift, which was to be opened by the houseguests shortly before the first nominations took place.
  • Mon Won's Blessing: The first HoH, Miesha Tate, had to choose a houseguest to give "Mon Won's Purse" to, and that person would not be safe. They would then pass it onto whoever they would like, and that person would also not be safe. The chain would continue on until the last person to received the purse. That person would then be granted safety for the cycle. Cynthia Bailey was ultimately the last person to receive the purse and was thus immune for the cycle.
  • Mon Won's Curse: On the night of the first eviction, Julie revealed that turning "MON WON" upside down reads "NOM NOW". The chain reset, but this time Cynthia would start it off, and the rules were now reversed. Whoever she gave the purse to would join her in safety, and so on. The last person to receive the purse was automatically nominated for eviction, but they were also given the power to take one of the HoH's nominees off and replace them with themselves. HoH Meisha and PoV Holder Carson Kressley were exempt from the curse due to winning their respective competitions. Ultimately, Todd was the last person to receive the purse and was nominated for eviction. He then got to choose to take either Mirai Nagasu or Teddi Mellencamp off the block, and he chose to save Mirai. He promptly took her spot on the block next to Teddi on the block, where she was then evicted 5-3.
• Altered Finale Week Format: Due to Chris Kattan walking from the game, the finale took place with only three players instead of five as with the past celebrity seasons. Instead of the Triple Eviction format with 5th place being evicted, and then the Final HoH happening between the Final Four, and the Final HoH evicting two players at once, the 5th and 4th placers were evicted in a Double Eviction before the finale, leaving just the Final Three on finale night. However, despite only three finalists, the Final HoH was still just one competition instead of being broken into three parts like on a main season.
