Nancy Adams Collins is a former Republican member of the Mississippi State Senate, representing District 6 from 2011 to 2016. She was first elected to the chamber in a special election on January 11, 2011. The seat was vacated by Alan Nunnelee (R), who was elected to the U.S. House in the November 2, 2010, general election. She won election to a full term in 2011, but was defeated in the 2015 Republican primary.
On January 3, 2020, former Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves appointed Collins to the Mississippi State Board of Education.[1] In a confirmation hearing on June 18, 2020, the state Senate Education Committee voted to table Collins' nomination.[2]
Biography
Collins' professional experience includes working a registered nurse, limited obstetrical ultrasonographer, and speech therapist; and establishing the Medical Clinic at Parkgate Pregnancy Center. She also founded Sanctuary Hospice House.

2011 special election
In a press release announcing her candidacy, Collins explained her decision to enter the race: "My reason for running comes from a life that has always embraced challenges, from an understanding of how difficult it can be raising a family, from what it is like to overcome obstacles, and from a deep desire to serve Mississippi,” Collins said. “I also know what it is to have been blessed – with advantages like a good education and the chance to learn a skill. I have been given a lot, and I want to give back."[3]

U.S. House
Collins ran in the 2015 special election to represent Mississippi's 1st Congressional District.[4] Collins was defeated in the general election held on May 12, 2015. Trent Kelly (R) won the election, defeating Walter Zinn (D) in the runoff election on June 2, 2015.[5]

Elections for the Mississippi State Senate took place in 2015. A primary election was held on August 4, 2015, and the general election was held on November 3, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 27, 2015.[6] No Democratic candidates filed for election. Chad McMahan defeated incumbent Nancy Collins in the Republican primary. McMahan ran unchallenged in the District 6 general election.

A long-time resident of Tupelo, Collins is a 2008 recipient of a Jefferson Award for Public Service (specifically a Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for outstanding service benefiting a local community) for her work in founding the Sanctuary Hospice House. In 2008, she also received the Governor's Initiative for Volunteer Excellence Award. Collins and her husband, Jim, have four children and five grandchildren.
