What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
My top three priorities are making sure that every eligible Coloradan has their voice heard in our elections, campaign finance reform, and providing new business owners with the tools they need to succeed. Every eligible Coloradan--Republican, Independent, and Democrat alike-- should have their voice heard in our elections. I fundamentally believe that the Secretary of State should make it easier for eligible Coloradans to vote. I will work to increase voter participation and to make elections more accessible and secure. That's why I plan to expand automatic voter registration—to increase voter registration and participation in our democratic process. I plan to fix our statewide voter registration system, which went down under my opponent's watch on Election Day in 2016, causing 2-3 hour lines in some polling locations. I also plan to double down on our election cyber security so that our election systems are protected from cyber attack. I will fight for real campaign finance reform that increases transparency of hidden campaign donors and gets secret money out of Colorado state campaigns. Also, the Secretary of State's office should do more to support small businesses. Colorado's economy is built by entrepreneurs and small business owners. As a small business owner myself, I will work to strengthen Colorado's economy and create jobs by cutting red tape and making it easier for people to launch their own business. I want to ensure that small businesses and entrepreneurs have the tools that they need and that government bureaucracy doesn't stand in the way of their success.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am enthusiastic about restoring political power to the people and capping the influence of special interest groups. Billionaires, special interest groups, and big corporations are spending millions to influence the outcome of our elections. And their spending is often unreported and secret. As Secretary of State, I will fight for real campaign finance reform that increases transparency of these hidden campaign donors and gets secret money out of Colorado state campaigns. I also plan to close lobbyist loopholes, and make sure that special interest groups and politicians play by the rules. Corruption should have no place in Colorado.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Leadership, decision-making, and being ethical

Campaign website
Griswold's campaign website stated the following:
“ |
Voting Rights The Secretary of State should make elections more accessible and secure. Jena will work to increase voter participation and turnout. That’s why Jena plans to expand automatic voter registration. On the other hand, Jena’s opponent has opposed laws to increase voter participation, such as universal mail ballots and same-day voter registration. Jena will protect Coloradans’ right to vote. Donald Trump set up a federal voter commission to discourage eligible citizens from voting. As Secretary of State, Jena Griswold will stand up to Donald Trump and protect every Coloradan’s right to vote in secure elections. Cyber Security We have great cyber and IT resources in Colorado. As SOS, Jena plans to work with the top minds in government and private sector cyber experts to ensure that we are ready for 21st century challenges. Small Businesses & Entrepreneurs Campaign Finance Jena Griswold plans to close lobbyist loopholes and stop dark money, which is unreported, secret political spending. She will also make sure campaign finance law is enforced and make sure special interest groups and politicians play by the rules.[2] |
