Fuera de Serie: That Michael Myers, Looks Like A Kirk To Me
If this film proves anything, it's that high expectations may easily ruin a film and lead to exaggeration. But part of me understands.
This film, contrary to popular belief, is conceptually and theoretically coherent with its predecessor (and yes I know this is a new version to the original script). Kills boils down to the idea that terror can transform otherwise normal individuals into violent thugs.
This film continues this train of thinking, but this time it goes in a different road, one that has already been alluded to in a prior installment, one that makes an intriguing promise and premise that this prior sequel from the original timeline failed to deliver on. In fact, there's one small element from the Rob Zombie's version here that I truly like. Also as Cody Leach pointed out, some cool Christine throwbacks.
Although the body count is low, I really enjoy the murders, especially in the second half (especially everything with certain group of people). The cinematography and camera work are also excellent. The score works wonderfully to set the tone of the film.
With the exception of Corey, most of the new characters are complete and utter trash that you'll be glad to see the back of (albeit some of them perhaps didn't need to meet such horrific ends). I really enjoy the unique directions taken by the remaining characters and their plot lines.
All in all, while there's an argument to be made that the whole movie in large is like a big middle finger and some ideas could have been better fleshed out and work the logic, I just really loved this. Maybe it's because I didn't have big expectations. Maybe because by the not so subtle reviews I already had an idea where it was going so I knew what to expect. Whatever be the case, as for me goes, this is a great trilogy.
SPOILER
People complain about Corey and Allyson's relationship; you be you, but I thought the idea that this gal going mad love (perhaps a little rushed) for this boy who was practically a junior version of the guy who murdered his mother was great.
For those who didn’t pick it up, the sequel I was referring was Halloween 4 when we were promised a successor of Michael.
