Boldly goes where no Halloween movie has gone before. Zero fucks were given which is a ballsy move, but not the best approach for final movie. The tone has been inconsistent throughout this trilogy. I was a big fan of Halloween Kills despite its obvious flaws. It felt very assured of what it wanted to be. Halloween Ends is also very assured of itself. Going the psychological route was totally at odds at how the previous movie ended. I get what David Gordon Green and co were going for, but it didn’t seem like a Halloween movie. That’s where my biggest gripe comes from. I want new takes and fresh spins, but not at the expense of your money maker. This movie is too contradictory to what came before it. It’s a great film for Laurie’s character and much better for her overall. Ultimately, the story gets bogged down by the new character, Corey. Remove Michael Myers and any mention of Haddonfield, and you have an interesting introspective horror movie. I’m curious how this will land on rewatch. Will it improve or will my thoughts remain the same? Polarizing end to an overall well made trilogy.
