Call me crazy but this is almost like really, really good. It doesn’t quite get to great because, for all of its big swings it fails to connect on one too many, but god damn if I can’t help but respect something that’s marketed as a slasher franchise’s epic conclusion making this many bold choices. Anything but playing it safe here. This one really hammers home how awful a place Haddonfield is which was one my issues with Kills. In that movie they’re all infected with blind mob stupidity, which came off more comical than anything but here it’s just pure, total hatred infecting these people like a virus, creating a new monster all while the old wounds are still healing waiting to strike again. Completely buy into all the Christine talk, with this Corey clown as the Arnie to Michael’s possessed red Plymouth Fury. Wildly subversive and weirdly romantic but also quiet, somber and kinda sad. Pretty much makes every choice something like this shouldn’t and where pretty much none of that worked with Kills it did here.
