Cernan Mari’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is so weird that it almost feels like a joke. Why can't they just make a simple Halloween sequel or ending? Michael and Laurie are the main characters, but for some reason, many people (who I really don't care about because they contribute nothing to the plot, other than getting killed) are sidelined, and the storyline focuses more on mini Michael and Laurie's granddaughter love affair and how mini Michael becomes a killer. Don't get me wrong, these aren't bad ideas, but the timing is all off; it would make much more sense if they explored this stuff at the beginning of the trilogy, and it wouldn't feel so out of place in the final film of a trilogy.
Again, nothing really makes sense and doesn't follow any of the logic created in this universe; why is Michael so weak at times but so strong at others? Or why is Laurie so strong? The film takes itself far too seriously, and Laurie's narration, which serves as a reference to the fact that she's writing a novel, is just so corny that it doesn't work. The film is so self-absorbed that it completely forgets why people watch Halloween films in the first place: to see Michael kill one by one and to see how his and Laurie's arcs end. Although we did see a satisfying final act, it was something the writers decided to just throw in at the end of the film to validate them, making this conclusion and keeping fans happy, but it was all ineffective as a whole. We spent a lot of time exploring new material that fans aren't going to care about, and it's far too late in the trilogy for people to invest in any of it. It appears that there are far too many writers with far too many different ideas, and it simply does not gel together. It almost feels like a film that wasn't intended to be a Halloween film and was instead written to be something completely different. I'd honestly like to see someone else take a shot at the franchise one last time because I believe the fans deserve a much better ending to the story. Instead, they gave us this.
