What a weird movie, this movie was ballsy as hell. It takes a very strange approach, without any major spoilers I’ll tell you that the film does something I think all fans of this franchise will collectively dislike. The main character we follow through pretty much the whole movie is a kid named Corey, it isn’t Laurie or anyone else we’ve been following throughout the series. I did like this kid and I was genuinely feeling for him and digging what they were doing with him up until about halfway through the movie and then it hit me, this is the movie? The conclusion to the franchise? The whole plot line just went off the rails and kept dragging and going on, it had me confused for so long why they chose to do this. Minor spoiler ahead Michael Myers is in the movie for a good 10-15 minutes, Laurie’s storyline is a literal subplot and the final showdown between Michael and Laurie, while having some cool moments just did not feel earned, the movie most certainly did not feel like it earned the ending or was building to it at all. The movie was not setting up the final showdown at all. I don’t know this was just weird, I think that’s the best way to describe it. Again, for the first half I was really digging it and the main character, it felt strange but I really respected the attempt to do something different but after a certain point you realize that’s the whole movie and it was just strange. I don’t know, I’m not a die hard Halloween fan or anything but I think I can say this movie is going to disappoint fans. Definitely the “Freddy’s revenge” or the “Friday the 13th new beginning” of the Halloween movies. This movie is gonna be split for a lot of people, for me I’m right in the middle I suppose, I respect the risks but didn’t really like it by the end.
5/10
Side note: Rohan Campbell did a great job, he gave a really compelling performance it was mostly the writing direction they took, I actually really felt for him and his performance was good.
