Ngl What really got me curious about this unnecessary sequel was Winona wanting Lydia and Beetlejuice to be endgame (such a Queen) despite/ in all their problematic glory lol
Lots of side plots get resolved too quickly and it does feel all over the place at times ...- but the first one also had the same issues and while I've always liked it, I was never super attached to it in the first place- aka what I'm trying to say is that it was exactly what I expected: Just a lot of Spooky Fun!
Sure it could have been better (Tim, you're dating Belluci, don't "just" give her a cool intro/Brava inspired backstory/ Evil Sally-Emily aesthetic, give her even more fun to do! She sadly feels almost as wasted as in literally all the other blockbusters she has participated in! Not Cool! - I'm counting on you for your next film together!); but it also could have been way worse.
This is easily Burton's best since Sweeney Todd, with enough creativity in the set pieces/practical effects to prevent it from feeling too much like fan service complete with a nice soundtrack (some excellent needle drops indeed) and the characters are still fun to watch. Ortega fits nicely with the rest of the gang and Dafoe once again confirms that nobody is having more fun in Hollywood than him.
(Oh and seeing BBC Merlin's Lancelot as Lydia's deceased husband was a nice surprise 🥰)
