Mostly harmless good fun, and Burton seems to be feeling some traces of his original mojo which he lost all those years ago. All of the original cast are also feeling themselves, and the new entrants mostly fit in fine (I think best was Justin Theroux). The original is a fun film, but mostly just relying on vibe, which this recaptures with ease, although the balloon was beginning to lose a bit of its air around the time of ‘MacArthur Park’, and not quite sticking the landing for me.
Nice way to close things out with that Pino Donnagio ‘Carrie’ throwback, though. Although this was quite pleasant, I’m not sure I will be sticking around for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’. Feels like we are done here. But, I will certainly be interested for attending that all night Mario Bava-fest!
