Damn talk about making a deal with the devil.
Another preshow with easter eggs sprinkled throughout. They showed trailers for Psycho III, Happy Birthday To Me, and The Brotherhood of Satan. They showed a creepy doll video and a live band playing Bang A Gong. All of these made so much more sense after the movie.
They also had a segment titled “Now Another Terrifying Moment from the Film Career of Osgood Perkins” where they showed stuff like clips from Quigley and Legally Blonde.
Going into this as blind as possible was definitely the move. This movie is entirely dependent on you not knowing what comes next. I was impressed it being the second weekend this is out & the showing we went to was still nearly sold out.
This is a solid slow burn film but a little too emphatic on the slow aspect of it in the first hour for my personal taste. But the whirlwind of a final act more than overcame that. Cage gives a maniacal performance & Monroe delivers another impressive performance throughout (she was also fantastic in Watcher).
Overall, a solid psychological thriller that takes awhile to get going but comes through with a highly impactful ending.
