Longlegs lived up to every expectation I had and even surpassed them in ways. An incredibly atmospheric, dark and unnerving crime thriller in the vein of Zodiac and Silence of the Lambs.
This is easily the most I’ve ever payed attention to the background of a film. Osgood Perkins’ direction here is sublime, the way he plays with aspect ratio and negative space is genius and one of my favorite parts of the film.
None of this would be near as captivating though without the absolutely incredible performances from Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage (who delivers the best performance of his career in my opinion).
Overall, I simply adored every twisted second of this. It’s a film that’s built for me and my tastes. It’s gritty, vile and extremely unsettling and I can’t wait to rewatch it.
