“Witness me!”
See guys, that is what I needed to like this flick, investment in a character. Last night I saw Furiosa again and I left so enthusiastic that I had to stop myself from rewatching George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road right after but today was the day to give it a *third* chance. Thanks to my second if not my favorite film so far this year, it finally worked. There is so much I liked about this film.
For starters, Max (Tom Hardy) worked on me this time. I do think it’s a crime against humanity to have such a specimen of a man behind a mask for 43 minutes, but I digress. Max does need more character development and the seeds are certainly there so hopefully that’ll happen in future installments. Then there’s Furiosa (Charlize Theron). Her Green Place moment hit way harder knowing the back story of why getting there was so important. Theron is super tough in that role. Furiosa beats the crap out of Max and I laughed when he handed her the gun.
Nux’s (Nicholas Hoult) story is great, I think Miller did flesh that story out very well. I also dig the War Boys in general. My favorite is when they do acrobatics. It’s so bizarre but it looks so cool.
If you’re a car crash fanatic, this had to be a gift to you. If I had a dollar for every time a car flipped, I could buy myself dinner.
Also, part of what makes these films so good is Junkie XL’s scoring. It’s either epic or heart-racing. I love it.
Finally, when I saw Miller speed up the camera the first time I thought it was weird but I actually love it now.
This went up one full star on this rewatch. I only think it’s fair for Furiosa to go from a 4.0 to a 4.5.
