“You stay out of this Glinda, or I’ll fix you as well.” “Oh rubbish, you have no power here. Be gone, before someone drops a house on you too.”
I considered giving Victor Fleming’s The Wizard of Oz 3.5 stars but I think the universe would implode if I did so here we are. This is thee definitive film, quite possibly the most well known movie ever made and has managed to…
I went in blind to The Wild Robot, written and directed by Chris Sanders. I’m a sucker for a good found family film so I realized quickly this was going to be one of those rare animated movies I love. From the beautiful story to the capable voice actors, the gorgeous animation to the hilarious little bits of comedy, this is a must watch.
This film overwhelmed with emotion, I cried a good three times, including through the credits even though it…
What a difference a couple of decades make. Had you asked me in my 20s what I thought of Peter Pan, co-written and directed by P.J. Hogan, I would’ve told you I loved it, only now it’s a mixed bag. While I still love the film for its depiction of Captain Hook (Jason Isaacs), the rest just doesn’t work as well for me anymore.

12 Oscars nominations! 8 wins! Holy moly! Elia Kazan’s On the Waterfront cleaned house in 1955, taking best picture, best actor and best director amongst other wins. While I don’t necessarily get why it’s so lauded (I fully support the acting wins/noms), this a decent enough piece of cinematic history thanks to the fabulous performances.
“If these Mississippi crackers could see you now.”
Clearly I watched a different film than everyone else because I had a blast with David O. Russell’s Amsterdam. With a quirky, well-paced script that would make Wes Anderson proud and truly entertaining performances from a stacked cast, Amsterdam is a pleasant surprise.
O. Russell’s script is filled to the brim with oddities. Valerie (Margot Robbie) collects shrapnel from soldiers she treats to make art, characters sporadically sing songs (such as the…
I went into Andrew McCarthy’s Brats thinking it was gonna be about the excess of 1980s Hollywood, what it was like living in the limelight, the booze, drugs and sex that went along with it and the inner pack drama but instead its McCarthy’s 92-minute therapy session. While I was too young to really understand its impact, this film is about the introduction of the term ‘brat pack’ and what an incredibly traumatizing experience it was, at least for McCarthy. Other…
