I've been psyching myself up for Furiosa by going through the Mad Max films again. What can I say about this one that hasn't already been said a thousand times? It's a beautiful and film and damn close to perfect. Every Mad Max film seemingly gets better and better, a rarity in films. Furiosa has some big shoes to fill, but if it's even close to Fury Road's greatness, we're in for a hell of a ride.
So what makes Fury Road so great? The story sees Max (Now played by Tom Hardy) trapped in an encampment by Immortan Joe. He is tasked to ride along as soldiers partake in the capture of Charlize Theron on a convoy across the Australian wasteland. It's a pretty simple premise but one that gives the filmmakers a chance to showcase their extreme skills as the visuals, sounds, and music are beyond amazing. This entire film is basically one of the most epic car chases ever put to film. Kudos to George Miller for making this one of the most visually striking films I've seen in a long time.
Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult steal the show in this with Tom Hardy (our main character) barely speaking throughout the film, but somehow it works well for his character. The sandstorm scene stands out for me as one of the coolest in the entire franchise. I do have to wonder however if the pursuant team wouldn't have faired better had they not had to set up a rolling concert on wheels for the chase. I've seen how long it takes to set a stage and get your acoustics right, so they may have wasted a lot of time, getting that ready.
And now that I've rewatched all of the Max movies, bring on Furiosa! I'm ready! Is it May 24th yet?
