This was great. I had no idea what it was about but it goes from intriguing and creepy to action out of no where . Kurosawa directs it perfectly , greed is a MF
]]>I like all the actors and it was a fun cast to watch together , but I don’t know , i just wasn’t into the direction.. felt disposable
]]>The biggest lie on this website is that Denzel is good in this . No he’s not , he’s just Denzel, an easy check for him
]]>Assumed this would be a typical dick and fart joke thing .. but it’s actually a pretty good coming of age, friendship , love triangle thing … cool little movie!
]]>This was ok , very 90s style indie cinema. At least 3 very annoying silly characters , but it had plenty of cool shots and good music. Watched greenish version not the restoration/alternate.
]]>The action and location/sets are awesome, all the drama in between was a tad boring and goofy , but overall enjoyable watch.
]]>Very dumb and empty but entertaining, good score.
]]>Watched on Sunday January 5, 2025.
]]>I’ve seen this like 10 times and can still barely keep up with all the double crosses
]]>I was browsing criterion and hit play based on the title. Was pretty surprised when I found out that the “killer” wasn’t a person. Still pretty fun and random when they cut the typical noir crime stuff with medical virus educational style clips. It’s like if there was a bank robbery subplot in Contagion or something.
]]>Only part that holds up on rewatch is the highway shootout , otherwise pretty basic stuff
]]>Not bad but this is more of an action thriller in the second half , the original was like a bleak satire. Different enough if you wanna watch both. Someone probably already said this but McAvoys transformation into Gerard Butler is almost complete.
]]>Just like Nitram , I got tricked and didn’t know this was a true story til the end. Not a big fan of Kurzel but this had moments where I thought I was watching something really good. Mostly solid procedural, but the generic title and typical story beats hold it back a little. Law is very good here, Hoult is ok but what does Sheridan even do in any of his movies? Most forgettable dude ever.
]]>Very very stupid but funny , I forgot most of the bits so it was a fun watch the second time around.
]]>I really enjoyed parts of this, but was losing interest for long stretches. I’m not sure that I got much of what was going on in Manila til the end where they run into some protesters. There’s good drama in parts like the call boy scenes but this isn’t really my kind of movie. Respectfully.
]]>Doc about repatriating some looted African art. Diop makes this stuff emotional. Damn this hits. “They always told us some ‘things’ were stolen from us but they didn’t say it was treasure”. One of the best of the year now.
]]>Some really funny bits and even some top tier car chase action. Streisand is great , O’Neal works playing the clueless straight man. Love it
]]>Orlock/Dracula is way more emo in this one. Less horror and more depressing than the new one , the last supper rat scene was some depressing shit. I liked this a lot , totally different vibes than the Eggers
]]>3.5 stars for the “Dolby as it should be seen” blah blah theater experience. It was very loud and dark and it looked cool. Maybe Eggers is not too creative , but he knows good imagery and how to make bodies move in a creepy way. Depp was great too. Nosferatus voice was awesome but he was a yapper.
]]>First rewatch in a long time , thought I would revisit before watching Nosferatu this week. Insane visuals and good fun acting (not you Keanu!) Hopkins and Oldman steal the show obviously.
]]>This popped up on my feed so I rewatched it , great Christmas low budget thriller. The incel bad guy is scary cause it actually seems like he’s a real dude.
]]>Better than I expected for like 3/4 of the runtime , but doesn’t stick the landing. Grant is having fun. But overall pretty stupid
]]>I loved watching this movie, it felt special. I don’t think it’s an “American epic” cause it only shows you maybe 10 years with an epilogue. Brody and Pearce are great , filmmaking is not too flashy. I wish they made more movies like this . Corbet knows what he’s doing
]]>Probably my favorite movie I’ve seen this year, right at the buzzer. I’m the target audience for this kind of low stakes road comedy though. Well I guess the consequences are high, but it’s mostly played in a fun goofy way. Some real laughs , and great performances.
]]>What a dumb movie. Director had a few chances to kind of save it , but nope! This is a movie for 15 year olds ,somehow.
]]>Significantly better than the first one , having all this happen to a pop star gives it something extra. The lead is very good, she has expressive eyes and it’s a real physical performance. The plot is barely there , and it doesn’t really follow any logic, it just kind of gets you from scene to scene which is fine. Ending paid off for me too.
]]>I don’t like Audiard but Zoe Saldana makes this somewhat watchable .
]]>Weird , creepy , and good songs.. what more do you want from a fairy tale ..
]]>screening at Metrograph
]]>I knew most of this already, but cool to see all this stuff about his process squeezed into an hour.
]]>I don’t think this will ever be above 3 or 3.5 to me , but I keep watching it anyway
]]>Welcome back home, Jaume Collet-Serra. Keep making these above average thrillers please. Even the bad CGI car scene has a nice payoff.
]]>Watched new 4K restoration @ Film Forum
]]>Forgot to log this, timely with the CEOs in the news
]]>Hworley?
]]>Regina Hall is something else here.. good Americana , low key indie vibe where not much happens , but feels really authentic.
]]>Never saw this one before , it’s ok. Elias Koteas is the best tho
]]>Good QT , underrated Sam Jackson performance
]]>First time watch, incredible .
]]>Well paced political thriller, good interiors. Felt like an episode of a TV show at times. But an HBO show not Netflix
]]>Very 90s psychological thriller , very 90s ending and explanation.
]]>Typical revenge movie with scenes of assault and torture (had to look away a few times) but I like the low budget 2010s aesthetic, and kind of well made.
]]>Watched on a plane, kept my attention , pretty good comic book action and some funny lines. I liked it .
]]>Mark Stevens is the man, but his plan fell apart spectacularly. Loved the music. Tubi didn't even bother to include the ads in this. Nice.
]]>Bad ass plane movie. Disposable fare but I had a lot of fun
]]>Wild ride , western/ giallo / b-movie / art film mash up. Some of the shots are jarring in a good way. There’s not that much actual violence but when it’s there it’s nasty and evil as hell. Well acted and a satisfying ending.
]]>Liked Meltons performance much more on rewatch,I think he was playing it more straight than everyone else which I guess threw me off the first time . Great movie
]]>gotta love a Bogdanovich farce , really funny , characters are unlikable and shitty people but there’s no judgement.
]]>Old school cinema right here , nothing too flashy .. some good moral dilemma/ questioning the American justice system type Clint stuff , love it.
]]>Keyes was too smart for them, damn.
