"The Lucky Cat Car" is the 6th episode of Season 2 of Infinity Train and the 16th episode overall. It aired on January 8, 2020.
Synopsis[]
MT and Jesse enter a carnival car and have to compete for the exit.
Plot[]
The group find themselves in a car with a giant Lucky Cat. Upon entering it, they find themselves at a carnival visited by other car passengers. They run into The Cat who tells them that they have to play for the exit and that only one person can leave once a month. However, if they get a combined score of 1000 points, both MT and Jesse can leave. They play against a mysterious masked gamer and quickly learn that Jesse unfairly gets more points than MT due to being a passenger, while MT is not. Jesse reveals that he does not want to leave without MT, causing his number to go down to 4. They get distracted by Alan Dracula wanting the fake grass in a crane game and eventually trapping himself inside to eat it. Although the duo was able get enough tickets first, once they retrieved Alan Dracula, they find that the gamer has taken this opportunity to get the door, who turns out to be a girl named Grace, who has a big number on her arm. She has several kids enter the car to ransack the place and then invites Jesse and MT to hang out with her in the next car, to which they agree.

Trivia[]
- The Cat knowing the existence of the Mirror World is hinted in the Book One episode "The Cat's Car". A mirror police helmet can be on a shelf in the scene where Tulip decides to leave the car. Storyboards by Ryan Pequin reveal that The Cat was suppose to address her knowledge of other worlds but it was cut for time.
- The number 4 on Jesse's hand is a reference to the fact that there are only 4 episodes left in this particular season.
- A similar reference was used during the previous season in "The Chrome Car."
- End tag: MT looking at her reflection in her hand while on board the Infinity Train.
Continuity[]
- The Toad from "The Toad Car" is named Terrance. Apparently that wasn't his name in that episode.
- Various characters from Book One make return appearances in this episode, including Nancy, Khaki Bottoms, Greige, Randall, a Tiny Wizard, and a Turtle Person.
- Grace was first hinted at in the finale of Book One, "The Engine," where a monitor in the engine showed her image as well as her extremely high number.
- In the background of the scene with Terrance, there is a stand for the "Hey Ho Whoa Toss." Additionally, among the prize booth is a clock with arms and legs.
Behind the scenes[]
- Supervising director Madeline Queripel stepped in to do the storyboards for this episode when Sofia Alexander had to leave the storyboarding team to work on her own show, Onyx Equinox.[1]
- Jesse's line about attending a pow wow with his family at the county fair was actually recorded by his voice actor Robbie Daymond during production on Book Four's episode "The Old West Car", and inserted into this episode in post-production. It is the only time in the series that Jesse's Native American heritage is directly acknowledged, as Cartoon Network executives largely refused to allow the writers to confirm it on the show.[2]
- Jesse’s explanation for why red blood cells are shaped like innertubes is completely incorrect, and was in fact googled by episode writer Lindsay Katai to ensure it was wrong. Owen Dennis’ wife, who is a scientist, chemistry teacher, and doctor, expressed annoyance that the show was spreading disinformation about science in Jesse’s explanation of red blood cells. Dennis’ defense was that MT and Jesse aren’t very smart.[1]
- The team were excited for the chance to feature The Cat in a different outfit and in a different situation, something they wanted to do every season.[1]
- They also expressed amusement at being able to get Kate Mulgrew as The Cat to say the line “buzzo-toot.”
- Despite The Cat's cutthroat nature, Lindsay Katai thinks it is telling that The Cat 1) lets MT and Jesse combine scores and 2) has the scores weighted so passengers can get out quicker.[1]
- At one point MT puts a hand on her arm while blushing. This gesture was boarded by Madeline Queripel and is essentially her attempt to get back at Regular Show creator J.G. Quintel: during an episode of Regular Show, Queripel had Mordecai make a similar gesture, only for Quintel to tell her it was too "feminine."[1]
Deleted Scenes[]
- Ryan Pequin's storyboards reveal an extended version of the scene where MT and Jesse (then known as "Miles") meet the Cat. Among the moments unique to this version were the Cat explaining her knowledge of the Mirror World, and MT briefly mocking the Cat by speaking (bad) French. When the Cat inquires, MT elaborates that while she speaks French, Tulip cannot: MT was the only one who paid attention in French 101 while Tulip was "staring at Natalie Crenshaw".
- Khaki Bottoms originally had a much larger role in this episode where he served as The Cat's assistant. According to Lindsay Katai, The Cat would have offered him up to MT and Jesse in exchange for tickets.[3] MT would have asked how much he costs, to which Khaki would have replied "I'm not for sale, I'm priceless!" "He's negotiable," The Cat would have retorted. Katai was very attached to this bit, which had to be trimmed for time.[1]
- At one point during the very early planning stages the plot would have included a moment where Alan Dracula gets stuck on a roller coaster.[1]
- There was a deleted scene where MT gets mad at a monstrous tusked denizen running a booth for not acknowledging her win. The denizen would claim he's on break, and then hang an "On Break" sign on one of his tusks.[1]
Error[]
- During the episode's premiere on Cartoon Network, a brief shot (Greige playing a DDR-parody) included an editor's timer by mistake. The error was removed in re-runs, but as of November 2020 is still present in the version of the episode released on iTunes/Apple TV.
