Synopsis[]
Stuck in a blizzard, the gang seeks shelter in a nearby cabin. But when Simon realizes who's inside, he frantically searches for a way out.
Plot[]
The group travels through a snow-covered car, where Tuba and Hazel happily play around. Simon suggests they keep their circulation up by engaging in a snowball fight. After taking off her gloves to better warm the snow up to make a better ball, Grace notices her number has gone down, and notices it go down further while laughing with Hazel. A blizzard starts up, forcing them to take shelter. Tuba directs them to a nearby cabin, where they are surprised to encounter The Cat, who is taking a vacation in the cabin with Randall and Frank. The Cat is initially confrontational with Grace, but upon recognizing Simon she decides they can stay. Simon, emotional upon seeing The Cat, decides they need to leave, only to find the blizzard has left them trapped in the cabin. Grace tells Simon to calm down before going to look for supplies.
The Cat expresses puzzlement at Hazel's lack of a glowing number, to which Hazel shares Grace and Simon's claim that One-One turned it off. Immediately suspicious, The Cat tries to inspect the number but is held back by Simon, who threatens her to stay away from Hazel. Grace returns with supplies, much to Simon's anger due to his reluctance to be in the same space as The Cat. Simon finds a room where The Cat is collecting once more, and is left terrified by a taxidermy Ghom. Returning to the living room to find The Cat helping Hazel brew tea, Simon angrily reveals his distrust of The Cat is because she was the first denizen he met on the train, explaining she was the "Tuba" to his ten-year old self, only to abandon him after a few months and leaving him at the mercy of a Ghom. The Cat regretfully admits that Simon is not entirely wrong. Simon then accuses Grace of not caring about his feelings before running off. Grace takes him aside and reveals she has been trying to deal with her number going down. Simon assures her that they are still a team.
Upon pouring some tea she and Tuba prepared, Hazel is surprised to discover it is occupied by Randall: apparently all the water in the car is actually Randall, whom The Cat brought over to help with the environment of the car. This includes the snow: Randall explains the blizzard started because he saw their snowball fight and wanted to join. To spread the message the fight is over, Simon boils some Randall, turning him into steam where he lets the cloud Randalls know an armistice has been called. With the blizzard stopped the group exit the cabin. Before Simon closes the door he shares a solemn goodbye to The Cat.

Trivia[]
- This episode was originally titled "The Chateau Cateau Car." It was changed despite being a favorite of the creative team after Jacob Winkler pointed out that a "chateau" is a manor house typically situated on a vineyard, and not the same as a cabin. Lindsay Katai remarked that the original name was used for three months before this error was pointed out.[1][2]
- This is the first episode, and currently the only episode, with a title that does not begin with the English word "The".
- This is the first time the Ghoms have been referred to by name in the series.
- End tag: Simon, Grace, Tuba, and Hazel's hands against a backdrop of snow. Grace's hand is covered by her glove, Hazel's hand continues to wave playfully.
Continuity[]
- Simon mentions a lava mole is as deadly as a bottomless pit and frostbite. This implies that Simon and Grace have visited the Minecart Car from The Train Documentaries' episode "The Minecart Car."
- The Cat has apparently been on the train for at least 150 years, and not taken a vacation in that time. Additionally, The Cat comments that Le Chat Chalet has been without water for centuries. Combined with the knowledge that time on the train runs parallel to time in the real world, this leaves an important mystery: for how long has the train existed?
- Among The Cat's collection in the cabin are items that reference Books One and Two.
- The tic-tac-toe board and the bee mascot from the Ball Pit Car.
- Slug market signs from the Black Market Car.
- Maneki-neko statues and decorations from the Lucky Cat Car.
- A taxidermy Ghom.
- Among Grace's supplies stock from The Cat includes a square tin can with a grasshopper wearing a cowboy hat engraved on it labeled "Praying Mantea." This reference is further developed in season four's "The Old West Car" where it's revealed The Cat use to work at a western saloon roughly 35 years ago.
- The Cat was the first denizen Simon met when he arrived on the train, as relayed in the previous episode. Simon was ten years old at the time.
