The Portuguese Republic, simply known as Portugal, is a country situated on the Iberian peninsula in southwestern Europe. It is bordered by Spain to the north and east. Portugal's territory also includes the autonomous archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores, both located in the Atlantic Ocean.
There are a few references to the country throughout the Grand Theft Auto series.

- In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, there are grocery stores called "Verdi". This is a misspelling of "verde", which means "green" in Spanish, Italian, Romanian and Portuguese.
HD Universe[]
- In Grand Theft Auto IV, many Portuguese flags can be seen in the Leftwood district of Alderney, a reference to the large Portuguese population of New Jersey.
- Portuguese bakeries called "Tomada do Forno" can be found in Leftwood, which would roughly translate to "Took from the oven" or "Taken from the oven".
- Some pedestrians can be heard speaking Portuguese, though with Brazilian accents.
- The American Travel Guide website mentions Portugal.
- In Grand Theft Auto V, during the Grass Roots string of missions, Barry will mention Portugal's liberal narcotics laws in an attempt to gain signatures for legalising marijuana, saying "Look what it did for Portugal!".
- In GTA Online, players can customize their Yachts with a Portuguese flag (Enhanced version only).
- Magellan Avenue in Del Perro, Los Santos, is named after Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan.
- At Los Santos International Airport, the player can find a sign in Portuguese next to Caipira Airways.
- The Portuguese flag can be added to the Kosatka.
