Summary[]
Act I - The Strange Tale of Suikou's Tipsy Tincture[]
Arriving at Inazuma, the Traveler and Paimon meet with Katheryne who tells them she has a commission for them. The commission was sent by Yae Miko and that they could find her at the Yae Publishing House.
When they arrive, Yae dismisses her team for preparations before greeting the pair. She explains that she is organizing the Irodori Festival with an Inazuman twist as the Sakoku Decree had been lifted; her twist being to increase the reputation of her business. The festival gets Paimon's interest, prompting the Traveler to agree and go to Ritou. Once there, they run into Kamisato Ayato, who's helping Miko with the festival. As the two are extremely busy, Ayato gives the Traveler a ship log to help greet the incoming foreigners.
The next day, the Traveler arrives at the docks to greet the first ship from Mondstadt. Some bards initially come out, with and addition of Albedo invited to the festival and had taken Klee along as a dependent. The Traveler guides them to the International Trade Association when Albedo remarks that Mr. Hirayama is missing. He explains to the Traveler that he was supposed to be his contact for the Five Kasen. The Traveler then recalls that the editors would be at the Outlander Affairs Agency and takes him there.
At the agency, the editors are in panic and try to hide it from Albedo and the Traveler, but Albedo's deductions cause them to reveal what happened. The volume of the latest A Legend of Sword by author Zhenyu had gone missing, so the editors were intending to return to the city to print more copies to alleviate some of the impact. At the same time, the locals reported a suspicious individual running around a warehouse and called the Tenryou Commission to apprehend them. The two agree to help, being aware of Zhenyu's real identity and that he would be upset if the books were missing.
On their way to the warehouse, they find Kujou Sara caught Venti as a suspicious person entering illegally without his Invitation Pass. Venti explains that he was invited by Ayato, but had gotten too excited and boarded a ship shipping booze to Inazuma when he passed out from excessive drinking and woke up to Sara glaring at him. Hirayama then asks Venti if he heard anyone in the warehouse, who tells him he didn't hear anything out of the ordinary, claims he only heard workers and Albedo concludes that whoever stole the books had their sights on them for a while, might have had insider access and worked in a group.
Sara agrees with Albedo's conclusion but reminds Venti he still needs to show his permit. The Traveler and Albedo quickly deduce that the permit is in Venti's hat, putting him in the clear. Venti then shows the two a paper regarding Suikou of the Five Kasen, giving Albedo inspiration to finish the painting after a meal. Venti then suggests waiting for the next paper and/or inspiration to come.
Act II - What the Blue Flowers Left Behind[]
The Traveler and Paimon wait at Ritou's docks to greet the second group of guests arriving in Inazuma. As the passengers depart, Paimon notices Xu of the Feiyun Commerce Guild. He explains to them that the people on the ship are all from Liyue, including calligraphers and Theater Mechanicus players. Paimon, remembering that Xu serves Xingqiu, asks where he is, who points to him a short distance away napping when he comes to. Xingqiu is surprised to see the two in Inazuma and learns that they'll be his guide for the festival. He also finds a paper stuck on his bag and shows it to them, which Paimon realizes is one of the Five Kaisen excerpts, much to his confusion. Paimon bluffs they're part of a "Poem Hunt" competition and that the winner has a chance to be a model for the artist, which Xingqiu immediately deduces that Albedo must be the one painting and is excited to see him in person. He then realizes he would be busy with the art but the Traveler and Paimon insist he'll have time.
In Ritou's center, Xingqiu and Albedo are pleased to meet each other in-person. After Xingqiu suggests going to Shimura's, Albedo suggests Uyuu Restaurant instead which he accepts. As Xingqiu leaves to get settled in, Albedo notes something off with him. He reminds Paimon about the second excerpt, which Paimon believes is that Xingqiu had stolen his own books, although she finds it hard to believe he would do so. Albedo also suspects that Xingqiu may have arrived at Inazuma earlier as he did not object to Uyuu, meaning that he knew Shimura's was open-air. He asks them to meet him there.
At the restaurant, Albedo confirms no one is eavesdropping on them and asks the Traveler to talk with the patrons inside to get some intelligence before Xingqiu arrived. The Traveler learns of Xingqiu's "neat" handwriting and the weather was rough the past few days. When Xingqiu finally arrives, he talks about the weather and books; having acquired enough information, the Traveler and Albedo confront him over it. Xingqiu admits that he was lying and tries to explain why he came to Inazuma earlier, only for Venti to arrive. Venti tells the group that Kujou Sara apprehended the criminal who stole the books, which causes Xingqiu to realize that the person they apprehended was Onodera.
The group arrives to find Sara and the others, where Xingqiu tries to explain Onodera's innocence but everyone was already aware. The Traveler immediately suspects the incident must be related to Xingqiu's signature and Onodera explains that for the festival, he came up with the idea of selling newly released novels signed by the authors. However, he did not notify the authors in advance, and Xingqiu, being poorly versed in calligraphy, did not have enough time to improve his. As a result, he came to Inazuma earlier to practice, but even then, the two realized they did not have enough time.
With the situation cleared, the group returns to Ritou where Onodera explains the situation to the editors, who immediately begin to make arrangements for Xingqiu. Xingqiu asks Albedo to use him as a model for the next portrait so he could remind himself of the lesson he learned for the future. As the picture is made and everyone goes off, Paimon remarks about their mysterious benefactor and asks them to help Xingqiu when they hear sounds. The Traveler and Paimon only find a cat, but unbeknownst to either of them, someone was listening in.
Act III - A New Painting in Pale Scarlet[]
The next day passes and the Traveler and Paimon head out to the docks to greet their next guest. They spot Kazuha by the pier and greet him. Kazuha is surprised to see the Traveler and Paimon as the guests for the festival, while Paimon remarks that she expected him to be traveling elsewhere. Kazuha states that he had gotten an invitation and felt obliged to come to meet up with old friends. While on the boat, he also heard unusual footsteps but the person had disappeared before he could react, but found a piece of paper and gives it to her. Paimon realizes that the paper is talking about the Five Kasen and mentions seals, which the Traveler believes they could use to help Xingqiu with his problems.
The three head to Albedo and inform him of the new discovery. They then head to Uyuu Restaurant and propose the idea to Mr. Hirayama, who accepts and contacts two other authors participating in the event, Satomi and Kadenokouji Kenzaburou, both of whom agree with the proposal.
As they leave the restaurant, Ayaka and Venti arrive; Ayaka was preparing some ikebana lessons when she found a strange piece of paper which Venti recognized and thus they went to look for them. Upon inspecting the paper, they deduce that they need to dip the paper in water to reveal its contents. They head to the nearby pond and dip the paper in, revealing more lines. From this, they discover that Akahito was set up. The discovery gives Albedo enough inspiration for the next two portraits, using Kazuha and Ayaka for the last two models.
Albedo finishes the paintings and displays them at the square upon which Paimon wonders where Kuronishi went as he was not mentioned at all in the story. Venti and Albedo reveal that he was already embedded in the other stories and was the one who framed Akahito and blackmailed Aoi. Albedo then connects the similarities between the two stories and wonders who the Kuronishi of their situation is. The group then notices Kazuha contemplating in silence and talk to him. Kazuha tells them that the situation reminds him of his family's past. Ayaka asks him if he was thinking about the Raiden Gokaden, which he confirms.
Ayaka explains that the Raiden Gokaden was the top five schools of forging in Inazuma and that they held positions in the Yashiro Commission; however, in the present, the Amenoma art remains while the Isshin Art was lost despite having descendants - the Kaedehara Clan. Kazuha states that his grandfather wanted to revive the family business due to his great-grandfather's lack of interest but failed, and in his generation, the last of the clan property was seized. Ayaka states that the Raiden Gokaden had somehow fallen into disarray in a very short span, with three of the schools being completely lost. There was rumors that someone wanted to eliminate the Raiden Gokaden as a result of background machinations. However, as the Anemona and Isshin schools still remained, people treated this notion as a conspiracy theory.
Kazuha also tells the group that there was an incident with his great-grandfather when he was young that nearly crippled both his and the Kamisato clans, wondering that the story of the Five Kaisen might be trying to lead him to the truth. However, he tells the group he needs to confirm with someone and asks them to wait tomorrow, intending to tell them all when the time comes.
Act IV - The Palace, Dyed in Black[]
The following day, Kazuha tells the group that he had tracked down an old family servant and learned the truth of the incident. The Isshin Art had been tasked with forging an important Goshintou from an ancient diagram, but all the smiths, experienced as they were, produced only defects. When the deadline came, the blade still hadn't been made, prompting the craftsmen to hide in fear of punishment. Therefore, Kazuha's great-grandfather and the Yashiro head tracked them to the seaside, but they showed fierce resistance and escaped. As a result of the failure, Kazuha's clan was punished and the Kamisato head soon died from his injuries.
Kazuha then remarks that the failure to forge the blade was determined to be a lack of required skill and finesse. However, the story of the Five Kaisen leads him to believe that the diagram was tampered. Kazuha, hearing that the Yashiro Commission kept the diagram afterwards, asks Ayaka to bring the diagram to them. Ayaka agrees and the group heads to the Kamisato Estate, dipping it in water and discovering that it was indeed tampered with. Kazuha then tells the group that his grandfather, who wanted to revive the family business, tried to make the blade but also failed. After a short argument, Kazuha's grandfather left Inazuma. However, Albedo notes that the words used were off, upon which Kazuha realizes that his great-grandfather may have known the truth all along. Therefore, he suggests going to inspect his family property, which had been seized by the Tenryou Commission when he was declared a criminal.
Heading to the Kujou Estate, the group finds Kujou Sara inspecting some soldiers. Paimon asks where Kazuha's property is, upon which she tells the group that they're being held at the warehouse behind the police station and allows them to go to the warehouse. While the law states that they should have returned to him, Kazuha has no attachments to them and asks Sara to sell them and give the money to the poor. Upon arriving at the police station, Asakawa greets them and guides them to the warehouse where the belongings are. After looking around, Kazuha calls the group over to a dead bonsai plant where he discovers a hidden compartment with a blank piece of paper. They head outside and dip the paper in the nearby pond, revealing more words.
Kazuha proceeds to bring the group to a seemingly normal location around Narukami Island before revealing that it was the spot where his great-grandfather, Kaedehara Yoshinori, and the Yashiro head arrived to confront the fleeing bladesmiths, only to find an eccentric that claimed responsibility and quickly defeated the entire group. However, upon recognizing Kazuha's great-grandfather, he asked if he knew of "Niwa", which he confirmed. The eccentric then told him to let "her" know of his name, Kunikuzushi before leaving. Due to his strength and the fact that he threatened to destroy the rest of the Raiden Gokaden, both Yoshinori and the Yashiro head never spoke of the incident. Kazuha then states that he's satisfied with the findings, as he had no reason to hold onto it further, but promises to take action should the eccentric try to stir up trouble in the present.
The group then returns to Ritou and find Albedo having covered up the last of the Five Kaisen portraits. Albedo asks them to explore around town until the unveiling ceremony. Albedo unveils a blank portrait at the ceremony while the Traveler learns that both Yae Miko and Ayato were involved in the wild hunt. Upon confronting Ayato, he explains that he had tested Kazuha to see if he could discover and accept the truth and that both he and Ayaka needed someone to look to when they needed help. He also tells them they would likely have to fight the enemy together and tells them to splash water on the blank portrait when no one was looking around.
The Traveler returns at night and splashes water on the portrait, revealing a model of the Balladeer upon which they realize Scaramouche was responsible for all the trouble back then. In a flashback, Ayato also reveals that after the Kaedehara Clan property had been seized, someone had broken into the warehouse but nothing had been taken. Ayato asked Sara to feign ignorance while he had a member of the Shuumatsuban spy on the warehouse. Scaramouche was eventually forced to leave Inazuma, upon which Ayato inspected the belongings and found the hidden papers underneath the bonsai plant. After asking them a question and getting the Traveler's response, he tells them to enjoy the Irodori Festival.
