Overview[]
Mechanics are the different functions that the game has. There are a wide variety of mechanics, such as the more obvious ones like fishing and the shake button, but there are more interesting ones such as stabbing and luck boosts, all of which can be designated to unique and interesting rods. As of now, there are only a handful of unique functions to a few selection of rods, the most unique ones being inherited by Craftable Rods, which this page will go into detail about in a little bit.
Fisching Fundamentals[]
Casting[]
Casting is the most common mechanic in the game, as it is embedded in every single rod in the game. Casting is when the player pulls back their rod, and a bar appears on the side of their character that fills up and down, determining the strength of their cast. There are a total of 5 different cast strengths (Meh..., Fine., Great!, Amazing!! and PERFECT!). When a player gets a perfect cast, a distinct click sound is heard, and their rod casts its line the furthest. While using the Long enchantment may help the cast line go further, it is not advised as the enchantment is the worst in the game.
Casts typically don't determine the luck or the catchability of fish, but it can depend on where the player fishes. Event fishes such as Great White Shark or Ancient Depth Serpent have specific fishing areas that the player must fish inside of in order to have a chance at catching them.
Shake[]
Shaking is another one of the most common functions in the game. Shaking is when after the player casts their line, a "Shake" button appears in a random position on their screen. When one is pressed, it disappears and reappears in another random spot on the screen. The player can press these buttons multiple times to increase the speed of catching a fish. However, the player can also choose not to press any of these buttons, but it'll greatly reduce the speed of which a fish is caught.
This mechanic can be affected through Enchantments (Hasty, Swift, and Quality) or the lure speed of a Fishing Rod. There is also a unique fishing rod that increases the size of the shake button UI, that being the Steady Rod.
Fishing Bar[]
The fishing bar is a common function of the game, and the most essential mechanic in its entirety. The fishing bar appears when the player has lured in a fish after they've casted their rod, where they must keep the fish (represented by a small, dark blue line) inside the control bar (white area) of their fishing rod. They can spam click or hold their screen to move the bar around to the best of their ability to keep the fish inside of it for the required time. As they do this, another, smaller bar below the fishing bar begins to fill up. When they've managed to fill it up completely, the player successfully catches their fish. However, if it depletes to zero, their line snaps and they lose the fish.
There are ways to make catching a fish much easier through the use of enchantments, as well as certain rods that have better Control.
- The Controlled enchantment increases the size of the control bar by 0.05.
- The Resilient enchantment can decrease the movement of the fish.
- The Steady enchantment can increase the speed of catching a fish by 25%. Note that this doesn't decrease the lure speed but decreases the amount of time it takes to actually catch it.
Exploration Exhibition[]
Oxygen[]
Oxygen is an interesting mechanic, as its function revolves around the vast ocean and caves of Fisch. Oxygen is a function that, you guessed it, determines how much oxygen a player has when swimming underwater. However, there is also a more recently added function to this, where the player also has limited oxygen while climbing up the mountain in Northern Expedition.
When swimming underwater, a blue bar appears next to the player, and it slowly begins to decrease as time goes on. Eventually when the player runs out of oxygen, the player dies and loses 20% of their money (capped at 2000C$). They can increase their total amount of oxygen by buying either Basic Diving Gear or Advanced Diving Gear.
However, as mentioned earlier, there is a similar function where the player has a limited amount of oxygen when climbing the mountain of Northern Expedition. This is different from when the player swims underwater, as they have a longer time limit. In order to increase their amount of oxygen up on the mountain, they can either buy a Basic Oxygen Tank, Beginner Oxygen Tank, Intermediate Oxygen Tank, or an Advanced Oxygen Tank.
What's interesting is that diving gear and oxygen tanks do not go hand in hand. In other words, you cannot use diving gear on the mountain to increase how long your oxygen is, and you cannot use oxygen tanks to increase your air underwater. You are, however, able to equip both at the same time.
Temperature[]
Temperature is another recently added feature alongside Northern Expedition's addition to the game. Temperature is a mechanic that determines the player's warmth when scaling the mountain of Northern Expedition. When the player reaches a certain point on the mountain (near Overgrowth Caves), an orange bar appears next to the player next to their oxygen bar. Unlike their oxygen, their temperature decreases much slower. They start at 37° and slowly get to 34° as their temperature drops. Eventually, when it does reach 34° completely, the player dies and loses money.
To combat this, the player can purchase a Winter Cloak near one of the campsites of Northern Expedition for 7500C$, which keeps their temperature raised indefinitely.
Unique Rod Utilizations[]
Stabbing[]
Stabbing is an interesting mechanic that's unique to two known rods: Trident Rod and No-Life Rod. The mechanic is exactly what it sounds like, while fishing, stabbing can occur when using either of the rods. Stabbing can increase the progress speed of catching a fish and can stun it briefly depending on the rod. Stabs can occur consecutively, and the higher the rarity fish, the higher chance of stabbing that can occur.
This mechanic isn't one the player can activate manually or on command but instead can happen by pure chance. This isn't uncommon, and they happen quite frequently. However, the player cannot increase the chances of stabbing on either rods, regardless of the enchantment on it.
- Trident Rod rod has a much more powerful stab mechanic compared to No-Life Rod, as it can stun the fish for longer and increase the progress bar more.
- As of January 11th of 2025, all other fishing rods can have this stabbing mechanic if they have the Piercing enchantment.
Mutation Passives[]
Mutation passives are also a unique feature that's bestowed onto a few rods and can also be obtained through certain enchantments. This mechanic is the chance for a rod to give a fish a Mutation, which increases the fish's value and changes its appearance. Only a few rods have this feature, those being:
- Antler Rod (Jolly Mutation)
- Candy Cane Rod (Festive Mutation)
- Heaven's Rod (Heavenly Mutation)
- Mythical Rod (Mythical Mutation)
- Midas Rod (Midas Mutation)
- Aurora Rod (Aurora Mutation)
- Trident Rod (Atlantean Mutation)
- Celestial Rod (Celestial Mutation)
- Rod of The Eternal King (Greedy Mutation)
- No-Life Rod (Hexed Mutation)
- Sunken Rod (Sunken Mutation)
- Crystalized Rod (Crystalized Mutation)
- Seasons Rod (Seasonal Mutation)
Fishing Rods that have the Abyssal Enchantment can also give fish the Abyssal Mutation. The same goes for any Fishing Rods enchanted with Noir (giving 10% chance for catching Albino and Darkened fish) and Ghastly (20% chance for catching Translucent fish). Keep in mind that each of these rods, and the Abyssal Enchantment, all have chances to give these fish their unique mutations, none of them are guaranteed to be given them. The higher the chance, the more frequently you may get these mutations. If the player wishes to make a decent amount of money, it's highly recommended to use one of these rods, if the player is eligible to obtain them that is.
Events[]
Events, such as Shark Hunts and the Aurora Borealis, are many things that can happen in the game. Most events, like weather or Aurora, can be changed using their respective totems; but others, for example, shark hunts, are random and can happen at any time.

Levels[]
Levels are one of the most common mechanics in the game, as with lots of other progressive games. Levels can be granted by obtaining the required EXP to move onto the next level. EXP can be obtain by catching fish, or going to new locations across the map. However, as there are a limited number of locations, it's much better to grind levels by fishing. Leveling up grants players with new features and content, as listed below:
- Ability to give and receive fish (Level 15)
- Boats (Varies)
- Rods (ex. No-Life Rod, Rod Of The Forgotten Fang)
The current max level the player can be is level 750, but it's quite difficult to achieve such a feat, given that the EXP requirement increases with every other level. It's currently not know how much the EXP requirement increases by per level, however, there are a lot of ways the player can speed this process up. Some of those ways being:
- Enchanting a rod with the Clever enchantment, which gives 2.25x more exp for every fish caught.
- Enchanting a rod with the Insight enchantment, giving x1.5x more exp for every fish caught, however this is not recommended as the Clever enchantment is a better alternative.
- Fishing in certain locations, such as Cryogenic Canal, Forsaken Shores, or The Depths where the mythical fish in these places give the most EXP consistently.
- Perfectly catching a fish, which gives about +50% more XP.
- Purchasing the 2x EXP Gamepasses in the shop for 199 Robux
There is also another method, which is heavily discouraged, called macroing. Macro isn't bannable, but very discouraged by the Fisch Community and the Developers of the game, as it isn't considered real progress, but doing nothing while you reap the benefits. For the sake of the community and the developers, this page will NOT go into detail as to what it is exactly, but instead recommend grinding levels the vanilla way. Fisch is a game where progress should be admired, not fabricated, so for the community, please do not macro.
