Fierce and aggressive, driven by their sense of honor, the Hissho are fearless in battle. Preferring war to peace, their nation has by tradition sought conquest and glory. While their reigning Tokso, Iyolo Blackgyr, is a strong and worthy leader, he is unused to the complexities of running a multi-planet galactic empire. The Hissho government has always been centrally controlled, and both the volume and complexity of decisions means that even a gifted ruler has difficulty managing an entity of this scope. It is therefore a time of change and adaptation, a time of unrest, a time of hard decisions. It is also a time when the Hissho are faced with questions of their past with the Endless, as well as their future in galactic society.
Lore[]
Tempered by steel and battle, the Hissho evolved from avian ancestors on their Home Planet of Uchi. Focused on the constant wars between their own tribes, they lived ignorant of the different species roaming the galaxy until they were picked up by the Concrete Endless, augmented in the world of Sykagoja, and then quickly put to the test as gladiators fighting in the decadent arenas of their new masters. How long this period of mindless slaughter for the pleasure of their overlords lasted, none of them could say until the Virtuals devastated the planet, and of this bygone age only memories of slavery and exploitation remain, along with those of glory and adulation.
Homeworld[]
Uchi, the Hissho home planet is hot, craggy, and rocky, but full of lowland jungles. Though the highlands are arid and dry, the valleys and oceans of the planet form a dense forest habitat that teems with life--and prey. The difficult conditions have led the Hissho to be hardy and stoic, whether they are meditating in a temple carved into the side of a mountain or hunting game through dense woods.
The rough terrain lent itself to development of clan and family as the root of both social and political structure, and even now that they have their eyes set on the stars, the Hissho remain tied in webs of ancient loyalties.
Society[]
Under the rule of the Tokso, their military and spiritual leader, both an accomplished warrior and a symbol of divine authority, the Hissho have long lived divided into clans and regions following feudal lines. However, modernity slowly eroded this very strict organization and changed the makeup of society. Oaths of loyalty are now made to “School” and the way of life prescribed inside the walls of their integrated cities.
Of those, two are worth particular attention: The Way of the Red Blade, whose focus on physical training and warmongering attitude seduced those who would see the Hissho reign supreme on the galaxy; and the Order of the Obsidian Eagle with its daily observation of religious sacrifices and hermetic discipline, earning the respect, and even the fear, of those who come into contact with it.
Gameplay Style[]
The Hissho are proud, aggressive warriors who enjoy combat and will tend towards militaristic policies. If you keep them in your empire, they will provide a very good defense bonus as well as bonuses for battles.
