AcademyIcon The Academy is a long-lived and powerful organization. It is first known as a training ground for Heroes, as it aids Dust-enhanced individuals at understanding and developing their powers. Its interest in galactic politics and galactic history, however, is equally important.

About

The Academy is a massive Ark-like ship that orbits the broken world of Harrow. It is home to its leader, Isyander Shumèd. Here, he gathers Dust-infused sentients he and his forces have found throughout the galaxy, and trains them to empower their abilities, turning them into great Heroes of immense power. The Academy is the main place where you can find Heroes for your Empire.

Awakening DLC[]

  • In the Awakening DLC, the academy can own star systems as a separate, exclusively AI-controlled faction - including the system in which it spawns.
  • After discovering the location of the academy, Isyander will periodically send you (and other players) requests for financial contributions to the academy.
  • You directly compete against other players that have been introduced to the academy for the largest contribution.
  • This period of competitive investment lasts a number of turns (10 turns in fast) - after which the highest contributors receive their desired position, in order of contribution and position preference.
  • There only four possible positions available - and once occupied they are held for the same duration of time as the investment period, after which the process restarts. [Rent role flagships through the Role menu.]
    • The Spear of Isyander: Temporarily assumes command of the Academy Master Attack Fleet.
    • The Vault Keeper: Can choose one party not represented in their senate to unlock all its laws.
    • The Legate: Declare Crusades against other empires to let other players attack them freely. [Formerly: Master of Dust]
    • The Librarian: Can ask Isyander questions about the current state of the galaxy and its history, as well as access information about all heroes in the galaxy.

Academy Diplomacy Actions[]

Academy Access - Through this menu you may spend your accumulated goodwill with the Academy for favors. You may gain goodwill with the Academy by donating to Auctions, completing competitive quests, slaying pirates, and treating Minor Factions under your influence benevolently.

  • Declare War - Start a war, setting relation points to -100 and forbidding Academy auctions.
  • Cease Fire - Stop the war, moving relation to 0 points, and allow access to Academy auctions.
  • Agent Records - Peruse the Academy offices for the locations and missions of the galaxies Heroes.
  • Security Guarantee - Broker a promise from the Academy to protect you from declarations of Crusades, and call off any Crusades currently ongoing against you.
  • Request System - The Academy is a neutral, non-governmental institution not suited to managing territory; request a system from them and take it off of their hands.
    • Unfallen Prepared Entwinement - By cooperating with the Academy locals, we can entwine this planet almost overnight, adding it to our Empire as an extension of our peaceful mandate with the blessing of the Academy.
    • Vodyani Conversion Festival - Having developed a sufficiently strong relationship with the Academy and its populace, we have a unique opportunity to turn an entire system toward the construction of an Ark before converting themselves to Essence.
    • Umbral Choir Bury Servers - At our request, the Academy will perform a several month sensor blackout as we deposit a server cache within the crust of a planet in their territory, allowing us to establish a sanctuary in private.
  • Request Migration - Trigger the migration of a random population type from the Academy's system to the closest system of you Empire.
  • Request Fleet - Creates a fleet of the Academy's strongest available ships, to be given to you.
  • Political Lockout - Awarding of political favors from the Academy is not a right; by privately denouncing an Empire in less-than-perfect standing with them, we can knock one more competitor out of the running.

  • Sophons Research Mediation - Academy researchers are trained as spokespersons and mediators as well, greatly improving any international research group we invite them to.
    • 15 Relation for +20% Science on Systems with Heroes and +50% Science from Science Agreements for 20 turns
  • Cravers Hostage Environmentalism - The Academy is willing to provide ecological advisement and light protective terraforming so long as we maintain the health of our captives.
    • 15 Relation for 50% less Disapproval from Slaves and -50% Depletion generated for 20 turns
  • United Empire Academic Coronations - Inviting Academy representatives to officiate swearing-ins, knightings, corporate elections, and coronations of imperial officials will lend us an additional air of legitimacy.
    • 15 Relation for +20% Influence on Systems with Heroes and +20%% Influence radius size on Systems with Heroes for 20 turns
  • Mezari Guided Research - By exalting and empowering Academy scientists, we can improve the results and shore up the patriotism of our new Mezari intellectual class, showing our Emperor as a brilliant patron of the sciences under a politically controlled scenario.
    • 15 Relation for +20% Science on Systems with Heroes and +20% Influence radius size on Systems with Heroes for 20 turns
  • Sheredyn Military Honors - By awarding medals and initiating troops into each others elite orders, we can combine the prestige of both the Sheredyn and the Academy, improving our galactic standing and attracting a wave of new patriots to the recruiting offices.
    • 15 Relation for +30% Manpower per Turn on Systems with Heroes and +20% Influence Radius size on Systems with Heroes for 20 Turns
  • Horatio Vacation Destination - While the Academy will wonder where some of them go, good relations mean easy vacation packages for Heroes and their underlings in our territory.
    • 15 Relation for +20% Food on Systems with Heroes for 20 turns and 1 of any Population type (Excluding Cravers and Vodyani, and any you don't have the DLCs for)
  • Riftborn Refugee Assistance - Cognizant of the Riftborn plight, the Academy will deploy manufacturing advisors and mining tools to prepare our new homes.
    • 15 Relation for +20% Industry on Systems with Heroes and +1 Strategic Resource value for 20 Turns
  • Unfallen Horticultural Grants - Unfallen vine networks are highly sought after by the Academy for their diplomatic and infrastructural potential; they will provide mapping and assistance in friendly territory.
    • 15 Relation for 15 Approval on Systems with Heroes and +25% Vining Speed for 20 Turns
  • Vodyani Essence Aid - The Academy prefers to prevent messy raids when possible, and will extend their food aid programs to our thirst for Essence to do so.
    • 15 Relation for 200 Essence
  • Lumeris Heroic Advertising - Political dinners and huge donations can turn Academy Heroes into brand ambassadors across the galaxy.
    • 15 Relation for +20% Dust on Systems with Heroes and +30% Trade Income for 20 Turns
  • Vaulters Security Consulting - The Academy is familiar with both economic and military security to protect its vulnerable holdings; we can lean on that expertise to make our every system a center of economic resilience and recruitment.
    • 15 Relation for +30% Manpower per Turn on Systems with Heroes and +1 Strategic Resource value for 20 Turns
  • Hissho Training Exchange - By exchanging students and teachers with the Academy as equals, we can shore up our image as major galactic players and promote the image of our warriors.

  • Umbral Choir Emergency Planning - The Academy has very old, useful maps of the galaxy, and a desire to see every shadowy corner dominated by a peaceful ally; an agreeable arrangement will be made.
    • 15 Relation for -50% Beacon Chargeup and +25% Bandwidth for 20 Turns
  • Nakalim Repatriate Relics - While our long absence, hegemonic history, and shared faith would normally make problematic our own claims, the Academy is currently willing to renounce their claims on some Relics due to our good relations.
