Oops

The other day, I showed the card I made for a colleague who just got a promotion. I asked if anyone could find the mistake in the card, but no one did. That made me feel a little better hoping she wouldn't see the mistake either.

Have you found it yet? It may be a little bit hard to see as the accolade is upside-down on the card.

Do you see it?

It's supposed to be outstanding. Hopefully, if my colleague sees it, she'll get a good laugh.

Another Card

for a colleague who just got a promotion. It's not quite finished, but this one made me laugh. Can you find the mistake?

Retirement Card

I made a card for a friend that will be semi-retired. I followed an exercise from Lindsay Ostrom's Creative Hand Lettering Book. The exercise called Writer's Block, required dividing your paper into blocks and using different hand lettering. You wrote a word or made a doodle and then rotated your paper a quarter turn. That way some of your writing would be upside-down, side-ways, or the right way up.

I wrote things one could do in one's "free time". Like going to lunch sleeping late, watching the clouds. Just a fun way to acknowledge the next phase of her life.

The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week

1. Saturday pizza and movie night. I made pizza for dinner, and Himself, The Eldest, and I watched A Christmas Story and A Christmas Story Story (3 rd movie)

2. I was able to address a few Christmas cards

3. We made it through the storm. Us and another house a block or so away lost electricity for an hour or so. Weird

4. I was able to put up the tree and decorations

5. Wasn't feeling up to an in person visit, but had a virtual couple of hours visit with Teague.

Happy Mail

I got some happy mail all the way from Scotland from my friend, Tiggy

I like the heart cancellation supporting the British Heart Foundation and the beautiful Three Magi stamp with King Charles III profile.

Tiggy's beautiful card that she designed and set the type on her Letterpress. Look at all those beautiful fonts and dingbats.

Thank you, dear Tiggy. You have no idea how much your card delighted me.

On The First Day of Christmas

I hope to address a few more Christmas cards. Being sick with a cold that I can't seem to get rid of has put me so far behind, I think I'm winning the race because I can't see anyone in front of me.

At least the Christmas season is still on. You know the countdown for the 12 days of Christmas begins today and ends on 6. January with The Epiphany, Little Christmas, Three Kings Day, or Twelfth Night. So there's still time.

Whatcha Doin?

Today's a busy day. Point and click shopping for Amazon Prime Day, working on Inktober challenge prompt: forget, idea for Halloween card, working on title design for recipe final project. But first a cup of tea.

A Greeting Card for the Eldest

Saturday was National Card Making Day so I decided to make a card for the Eldest and to practice script, layout and design for the Modern Storybook Script class I am taking

The Eldest has moved to a new apartment that is closer to her place of work. I made a 5 in. x 7 in. card base from a sheet of scrapbook paper. The written portion of the card was done on Canson Mixed Media paper. The lettering was done with a Fudenosuke Brush Pen. Materials used for the illustration: Micron Pigma Pen, Tombow Brush Markers, Gelly Roll pen, and a button.

Just in case the button makes the envelope thicker than the minimum requirement, I added a second Love stamp.

The envelope was made with the same scrapbook paper, with the colored side to the inside of the envelope. The envelope was made using the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board

Engagement Card

Our Nephew (Himself's side of the family) is engaged to be married next year. I wanted to send the couple a card, but couldn't find one that I liked. Somewhere years and years back, I had come across an etiquette rule (Victorian?) that it was impolite or bad luck to wish the bride to be "congratulations" and that was the only sentiment I could find in commercial cards. So, I made my own

"Happiness and best wishes on your engagement"

Envelope with Celebration stamp

Do you have trouble finding commercial cards you like?

The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. I spent a day making cards and Mail Art envelopes

2. I saw a dragonfly in the  greenhouse. I think he found his way in through the open skylight but couldn't find his way back out. I left the door open

3. I saw the first firefly of the season

4. I found the Ink silhouette Tiggy sent me. Tip for the day: Don't put a black object on a black background as it makes it difficult to find.

5. A day out and lunch with Teague

T Stands for Valentine's Day Surprises

In the mail, a Valentine from my tablemate, L from the year long, 26 Seeds class we did with Reggie Ezell in 2017.

This festive, sweater design package from Nan arrived a day after L's valentine. What could be in it?

Holiday socks! Meowy Christmas socks, Llama Valentine socks, and Top O'The Meowning St. Patrick Day socks. And a cute notecard. In the note, Nan said she  was having

fun with these Vincent van Gogh die cuts

Not just any Vincent van Gogh die cuts, but images from the Doctor Who episode, "Vincent and the Doctor" The middle card is the Doctor's TARDIS painted in the style of van Gogh.

Nan also included my ticket to the tea party, this image of a bottle of water and a pretty glass.

Saturday, the Eldest sent chocolate covered strawberries.

And this sweet Valentine arrived from MB in California. Sadly, I didn't quite capture the shine of the iridescent paint she used.

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth’s blog to find out what the rest of the T gang is up to. If you want to play, include a beverage or beverage container in your post. Don’t forget to link your blog from Bleubeard and Elizabeth’s page.

'Tis the Season

for happy mail from Tiggy in Scotland. Tiggy made her card with a lovely robin motif. The European robins are so sweet.

For those that like to look at postage stamps, this very pretty stamp of the Magi following the star to Bethlehem.

The inside sentiment

Tiggy included information on how she printed the cards with her Letter press

Handset Letterpress
Front Cover: Block made in 1950s
Bells and Birds cast in 2016
Inside: Lead fount Madonna Ronde 36 pt cast in 1920
Song "Red, Red Robin" written in 1926

Thank you for the lovely card, Tiggy.

The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. Roasted chestnuts for Thanksgiving.

2. A distant cousin I met through Ancestry sent me a copy of my great aunt Angelina and her husband, Manny's marriage certificate. As I suspected, they were married in Italy not here in the US.

3. Skyped with the Eldest. She's planning on coming for a visit just after Christmas (she has to work in the lab Christmas Day) and she'll stay through New Year's Day. Color me happy.

4. Worked on Christmas card design.

5. Another year around the sun. Brought a wreath to the cemetery where my parents are buried.
