Doodling for Stress Reduction

On Mondays via Zoom, I participate in a class where we spend  a half an hour doodling our stress away.  The leader's inspiration for this doodle was the affirmation from her Yogi tea bag.

The exercise was a neurographic drawing of circles on the line. I interpreted the instruction more literally and drew faces and then added the quote from the tea bag.

The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. The Young One finalized dates for her visit. She'll be here for Thanksgiving.

2. I had an exceptionally productive Monday starting with a very fun doodle class

3. Play day at Teague's. She sent me home with some frozen, ready to bake giant chocolate chip cookies from Dream Dinners.

4. Only one student showed up in class. It was more like an art play session than a class.

5. Summer temps for Halloween. No cold, no rain, no blizzard. No complaints. Most likely one of the last evenings in the sunroom for the season

T Stands for Self Portraits

Teague and I visited the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts last weekend. We saw Rockwell's iconic self-portrait. Notice the glass on the wicker chair which holds the mirror. Paint water or a beverage? You decide.

Besides Rockwell's art there was also a special exhibit going. What Me Worry? The Art and Humor of MAD Magazine. Alfred E. Newman Triple Self-Portrait, 2002, Richard Williams. From the museum description of the painting: An admirer of Norman Rockwell and the chief appropriator of his work for MAD, Richard Williams put a twist on Triple Self-Portrait, the artist's 1960 cover illustration for The Saturday Evening Post and My Adventures As An Illustrator, his autobiography, Alfred E. Newman takes Rockwell's seat at the easel..."

Can you spot the things that are the same and the things that are different?

Doodling for Stress Reduction

On Mondays via Zoom, I participate in a class where we spend  a half an hour doodling our stress away.

I had told the group leader I would not be in class on this particular day as I would be away. She kindly sent me the doodle she planned so I could still participate and be part of the doodle community.

The happy faces doodle was digitally drawn as I sat on the front porch of the  cabin when Teague and I were in Weirs Beach, New Hampshire. I printed it out to put in my Doodling for Stress Reduction book.

Doodling for Stress Reduction

On Mondays via Zoom, I participate in a class where we spend  a half an hour doodling our stress away.

The leader said she was inspired by stones she saw on a recent trip to the beach.

Doodling for Stress Reduction

On Mondays via Zoom, I participate in a class where we spend  a half an hour doodling our stress away. I don't remember if the leader said something inspired her.  Her design was various circles on one side of the paper and wavy, thick and thin lines on the other.

We were free to add color or not. I added color a little bit at a time during the week. I used watercolor pencils.

Doodling for Stress Reduction

On Mondays via Zoom, I participate in a class where we spend  a half an hour doodling our stress away.

The leader said she was inspired to do spoke wheels because of a friend of hers was riding in the  the Pan-Mass Challenge. This is an annual bike-a-thon that raises money for life-saving cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

I decided to turn my spoke wheels into bicycles.

Monet and Me

As soon as Doodling class is over, Monet and me will figure out how to get the Phomemo thermal, portable printer up and running.

The printer can be used to print stickers from templates, your own photos and drawings to use in journaling or other crafts.

Doodling for Stress Reduction

On Mondays via Zoom, I participate in a class where we spend  a half an hour doodling our stress away. I don't remember if the leader said something inspired her.  This was the design that she came up with. She usually demonstrates on camera for us. In her doodle, I kept seeing clouds and couldn't get that image out of my head.

We can follow along with her choice or we're free to do our own thing. I had to get my head out of the clouds.

The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. We had a Skype date with the Young One.

2. In a box of art stuff in the basement, I found the Gelli Printing Plate

3.We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary. We thought about taking a riverboat trip around Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg (Webster Lake). Rain was predicted.  I had to pick up a prescription so on the way home I stopped at the grocery story and picked up an eye roast, sweet potatoes, crescent rolls, and an ice cream cake. We stayed home, avoided the rain, hung out in the sunroom and watched old movies. I made a nice dinner, and we were content.

4.  Some new toys arrived

5. I gave the kitchen a makeover.

The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. In the afternoon, a bag of dog food was delivered to my front door for someone named L.  I posted on the town Facebook page if anyone knew her thinking that the address must be 4 or 5 houses away. Someone did know her and I was able to make contact. Turns out the delivery people weren't even close. She lived 4 towns away from me and she got my pet delivery of kitty litter liners.

Himself suggested we put in a take out order at Bertucci's and meet L there to exchange the items. Perfect, we get our correct order and I don't have to cook.

2. The Young One didn't get the Mrs. Field cookies and Birthday Teddy Bear I had delivered (possibly due to the CrowdStrike outage), but she did get my card on time.

3. The cookies and teddy bear arrived a day after her birthday. They weren't late. They were just prolonging the celebration.

4. I ordered supplies for the watercolor class. The cheapest prices were from Jerry's Artarama.

5. I splurged and bought a package of Stroopwafels

Whatcha Doin?

Last week, I signed up for an online watercolor class through Willow Wolfe. (at a ridiculous low price of $14) While I wait for some supplies I bought from Jerry's Artarama, I'll look over the introductory lessons.

Whatcha Doin?

To night is the last class for this term and the lesson is on layout and design. I also got a commision so I thought I would show my students how I plan the project.

T Stands For Patterns in Bloom an Orchid Exhibition

The Eldest and I went to visit the Patterns In Bloom an Orchid Exhibition at the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill. The exhibit combined the fun and colorful sculpture blooms of Molly Gambardella with the Garden's annual orchid display in the Limonaia and the Orangerie. The exhibit is on display until March 17, 2024

The artist used upcycled materials and the patterns found on orchids as her inspiration for her creations.

It was fun to wander through the exhibit trying to see all the sculptures

My drink reference is the Coffee Tree

With its beautiful berries for those that like their coffee beans roasted and freshly ground

Grab a cup for your coffee. Teabies (a phrase stolen from my friend, Andy Fish) can find tea selections on the opposite side of this display.
