Weirs Beach

One morning we took a walk to explore the downtown area and boardwalk.  Laconia/Weirs Beach is a very popular destination especially in June for the annual motorcycle rally which as been going on since 1916.

Motorcycle riders come from all over. The top thing to do is to speed up the giant hill on Tower St. Even after the rally is over motorcyclists rev up the hill at all hours.

Fortunately for us, it was back to school week. So things were relatively quiet in town and along the boardwalk.

The dock for the Mount Washington and other tour boats for rides around Lake Winnipesauke.

It's a bit of a honky-tonk beach town at the height of the Summer. But because of Back to School, restaurants, the game arcades, and shops were dead.

If you didn't want a tour of the lake by boat, you can travel by train. Teague and I didn't do either tour.  By boat it's close to a 3 hour tour and by train 2 hours. Too long for us so we opted to go to the beach.

Teague found an auspicious parking spot at Weirs Beach/Endicott Rock Park. Parking was only $2.50 per hour. Cheap compared to the $7 per hour at Ogunquit Beach, Maine.

We had nice weather though it was a bit cool for the beach. This day was predicted to be the pick of the week. Teague said the water was a little chilly. It was warm where I waded in the sun.

There's lots to see and do from a beach chair. The Tiki Boat goes floating by.

I was surprised to see seagulls so far inland

Hang gliding. No, thank you.

A swan floatie made a break from a group of children

The tour boat, the Mount Washington returning to the dock from a tour

Ducks enjoying the water.

  2. I like seaside places out of season.
The hill must be very tempting for boy racers.

    1. This is a lake. We were about 50 miles inland from the sea.

  3. The Weirs look really quiet in your photos. I haven't walked around over there for a couple of years. It's always a fun thing to do for a few hours. Did you eat pizza and play any video games? We used to go in early to mid-May and you could get motorcycle week T shirts for super cheap. Once we even took the boat over and walked around during motorcycle week. That was a trip, and I don't think I'd drive there during that event. Thanks for sharing these CJ. and enjoy this gorgeous week.

    1. We were pleasantly surprised how the Weirs was dead. I guess kids were back in school or moms were trying to get all the things to get the kiddos back in school. Funny, pizza was the one food we didn't eat the whole week. The arcade games aren't my thing, and the last time Teague played arcade games she got the flu. So the arcade was out. We did have ice cream from the shop next to the arcades.

  4. I seem to remember what those three hour tours did to a certain group of people who ended up on Gilligan's Island! Wise and safer choice to sit on the beach instead.

  5. Beautiful CJ! We have seagulls here in West Central TX! I'm guessing they blew in from a storm originally but now i think they live mostly at the dump and the parking lots begging for french fries...lol... A little sad to me.. I've always wanted to pack them up and take them back to the ocean! Hugs! deb

  6. Fascinating that the Motorcycle Week has been going on for such a long time! About the seagulls: I live in Austria, which is a landlocked country in the middle of Europe - no sea anywhere. We also see seagulls here every now and then, even in fields where there is no water anywhere in sight...
    All the best, Traude
