Max, equipped with a Sprig Bow and Red Ant Armor.
Most Tools can be used dynamically for both combat and utility purposes. Each tool is designated to a certain sub-category that determines the type of damage it is capable of dealing to enemies and the environment alike. However, tools under the light, repair, shield, and misc categories are used purely for utility purposes. Some weapons, similar to armor, come with certain effects attached to them. Other high-tier melee tools have inherent elemental augments. All of these variables combined affect the amount of damage dealt to creatures by the player. Most tools can also be upgraded to artificially include these augments as well as overall better damage and durability.
Most melee tools have a 3-hit attack combo. The first 2 hits deal equal damage while the final one deals slightly more damage. (100% > 100% > 125%). Daggers are the only weapon to differ from this combo system, having a 2 combo system rather then 3, with it always being 100% of the damage. Standard bows have a similar mechanic where fully-charged shots deal more damage than uncharged ones, though this is not shared with crossbows like the Crow Crossbow which cannot be charged. Most melee tools can be used to block enemy attacks, and players can cancel their own attacks mid-animation by blocking. This page shows all craftable tools in the game.

- There are infused versions of almost every weapon type in the game, including the scythe and blaster which each only have one representative. Despite this, there are no infused versions of the rapier (Mosquito Needle and Tiger Mosquito Rapier), war pick (Salt Chipper) and Staff(Mint Staff, Spicy Staff, Sour Staff, Ant Queen Staff).
