The Spicy Coaltana is a Tier 3, two-handed Sword. It deals Slashing and Spicy damage. The crafting recipe can be found in the EverChar Coal bag located above the BBQ Spill.

Upgrading the Spicy Coaltana to level 6 at a Smithing Station imbues it with the Finale Parry effect. After landing the 3rd hit in the attack combo, this effect slightly increases the perfect block timing window by 15 milliseconds for a duration of 10 seconds. A successful perfect block during this time will increase the damage of the player's next attack by 25%.

Spicy Coaltana Event[]

To obtain the recipe, it needs to be obtained in a MIX.R-style battle around the sword, comprising entirely of Ladybird Larva. The raid starts when the button-prompt to "Pull" on the Coaltana is completed. If the sword is broken to the point of having no health left, the player will need to leave the bag to pull it again. If this step is not taken, the "Pull" prompt will simply read "No".

Note that completing the defense event will only grant the player the recipe for the Coaltana, and not the sword itself. This is despite the Coaltana apparently already being present inside the coal bag.

Strategy[]

For the event, maxed out Sizzle Protection is recommended as the hot coal in the middle of the bag will slowly kill the player without appropriate protection. A full set of Antlion Armor, Fresh Defense, and possibly a Quesadillantlion or Insulating Larva Spike are almost required to not instantly die. Mint Shards are also a valuable item to use so that the player can cool off in a pinch by eating them if needed.

The Ladybird Larva in the event will come in multiple waves and spawn underground. The larvae will emerge either to attack the sword or the player if they are nearby. The best strategy for dealing with them is attacking those that emerge near the sword, or those that are underground but closer to maximize the time they are not as dangerous underground.

A Mint Mace is by far the best weapon for the larvae to exploit their weakness and easily kill them in a few combos. This should be used with the Barbarian mutation for maximum damage.

Alternatively, a Rusty Spear or Tiger Mosquito Rapier can be used to exploit the larvae's weakness to Stabbing damage. The former should be paired with the Javelineer mutation while the latter should be paired with Blademaster.

A Suspicious Mint can be used to deal extra Fresh damage to the larvae. A Ladybird Larva Mount and the Guard Dog mutation can also increase the player's damage during the event.

If you are having a trouble completing the defense event, you can put a Lean-To, or other bed, next to the entrance to the bag and set your spawn point.

It is not possible to place structures inside the coal bag, so the usual strategy of building walls to keep attackers out is ineffective here. This also means that Acorn Turrets cannot be used during the event.

  • The blade produces a small, but constant glow, making it an infinite source of light.
  • Killing a creature that drops raw meat with the Spicy Coaltana, will instead drop cooked meat when looted.
